Aggressive midfielder who started his career at Gravesend & Northfleet, first appearing for their youth team during the 1982/83 season. Wayne made a single first team appearance as a substitute for the Fleet during 1983/84 and then moved on to Dover a few weeks into the 1984/85 campaign.

After making a handful of first team appearances for Dover Wayne joined Sittingbourne where he spent several seasons.

He linked up with Corinthian for the start of the 1988/89 campaign and on 13.9.88 Wayne scored a late equaliser in a 2-2 home draw with Thanet United. He also scored in a 2-2 draw with Thanet at Hartsdown Park on 28.2.89.

In November 1989 Wayne rejoined Gravesend & Northfleet and his second spell there lasted until the end of the 1990/91 season.

He joined Bury in the summer of 1991 and made over 50 appearances for the Suffolk club during 1991/92.

Wayne returned to Gravesend & Northfleet for the start of the 1992/93 campaign and took his total career appearances for the club to 126 (ten as sub) before joining Erith & Belvedere in the summer of 1994.

On 22.10.94 he was sent off for abusive language as the Deres were thrashed 6-1 at home by Ashford in a Southern League Cup tie and at the end of November 1994 Wayne signed for Margate having scored once in 12 appearances for the Deres.

He made his debut in midfield in a 5-2 defeat at Salisbury on 3.12.94 and then featured in Margate's next seven matches, starting all but one of them. Wayne made his eighth and final appearance in a 3-1 win over Clevedon at Hartsdown Park on 7.1.95 and left the club a few weeks later.

In July 1995 he joined Herne Bay and won the club's 'Player of the Year' award for the 1995/96 season. At the end of the 1996/97 campaign Herne Bay's manager Tommy Sampson said of Wayne "What an influence, what a footballer...I regard him as one of the best midfield players that I have ever managed." He stayed with the club until the summer of 1998 when he moved on to Deal.

Wayne made over 60 appearances for Deal before leaving the club at the end of 1999, a few months before the club won the FA Vase at Wembley.

He later played for Dartford where he broke his leg during the 2001/02 campaign and Wayne was still on the Darts' books at the start of the 2002/03 season.

After dropping out of senior football he played in the North Kent Sunday League for Sun FC for several years. Wayne then retired in 2010 and in 2013 he was living in Greenhithe, near Gravesend.
