Battling 5' 9" tall locally-born midfielder who progressed through Margate's youth ranks. During the 1996/97 campaign Tom played for the Under-15's and during 1997/98 he scored six goals as Margate's Under-16's beat Faversham 11-0. He finished that season as top scorer.
During the early part of the 1999/00 campaign Tom played regularly for Margate's reserves and he was their leading goalscorer before moving to Ramsgate at the start of 2000.
Tom returned to Margate for the 2000/01 term but left the club again towards the end of the season and joined Kent League club Canterbury.
In the summer of 2001 Tom signed for Dover and played regularly in their reserves throughout the 2001/02 campaign. On 29.1.02 he was sent off for a two-footed challenge just four minutes into his first team debut - a Kent Senior Cup tie at Ashford that Dover eventually lost 5-1. Tom also played once in the Conference during 2001/02, featuring as a late sub as Dover lost 1-0 at home to Hereford on 16.3.02.
He rejoined Ramsgate for the 2002/03 season and Tom then moved on to Herne Bay towards the end of 2003 before going back to Dover where he finished the 2003/04 campaign.
Tom was a regular in Dover's first team squad during the 2004/05 season and 24.8.04 he was sent off after picking up two bookings in a 2-1 home defeat against Worthing in the Isthmian League Premier Division. He ended the campaign having made 22 league appearances (five as sub) without scoring as Dover were relegated but Tom did find the net in a 2-1 home defeat against AFC Wimbledon in the Isthmian League Cup on 3.1.05. He stayed with Dover for the 2005/06 campaign but only made nine Division 1 appearances, all bar one of them as a substitute.
A few weeks into the 2006/07 season Tom rejoined Margate and became a regular in the reserves. On 8.11.06 he made his first team debut in a 1-0 defeat at VCD in the Kent Senior Cup and the Isle of Thanet Gazette said he "bossed midfield". Tom then returned to the reserves before being released in January 2007.
In February 2007 he started a third spell with Dover but during the remainder of the 2006/07 campaign Tom also helped out with coaching Margate's Under-18's team and he didn't play for Dover first team.
By the start of the 2007/08 season Tom was working as Director of Sport for Generation Sports who were a company that worked with Margate's Under-18's and reserves and also ran the new 5-a-side facility at Hartsdown Park. He was still on Dover's books at that time but after making one Isthmian League Division 1 South appearance during the early part of 2007/08 Tom joined Kent League outfit Faversham towards the end of 2007.
He scored five goals for Faversham in what remained of the season but in June 2008 Tom rejoined Margate - his third spell with the club.
After impressing new manager Barry Ashby in pre-season friendlies Tom was made captain for Margate's first Isthmian League Premier Division game at Carshalton on 16.8.08. He played in midfield in a 2-1 defeat but didn't feature at all in Margate's next match before coming on as a substitute in a 4-0 defeat against Canvey Island at Hartsdown Park on 23.8.08.
After making one more sub appearance Tom returned to the starting line-up when he played at right-back in a 2-1 home win over Heybridge on 30.8.08 and he kept his place in the number two shirt for the next two games before dropping out of the side following a 2-0 home defeat against AFC Hornchurch on 6.9.08. Tom then featured three times as a substitute in Margate's next four matches but his appearance from the bench in a 0-0 draw with Tonbridge at Hartsdown Park on 23.9.08 turned out to be his final outing for the club. In October 2008 Tom was loaned back to his old club Faversham having made nine appearances (five as sub) without scoring for Margate and his move soon became permanent.
He became Faversham's captain and Tom went on to lead them to the Kent League title during the 2009/10 campaign.
On 21.8.10 he scored the club's first-ever Isthmian League Division 1 South goal in a 2-2 draw at Whitehawk and Tom finished the 2010/11 season having found the net seven times in 37 league outings (one as sub).
He started 2011/12 with Faversham too and scored twice from 23 Division 1 South appearances before joining Ramsgate in January 2012 shortly after turning down an offer from Whitstable. Tom had played over 130 games for Faversham before starting his third spell with Ramsgate.
He made 11 Division 1 South appearances (one as sub) without scoring for the Rams during the remainder of 2011/12 and Tom stayed at Southwood for the start of the 2012/13 campaign but struggled to break into the first team initially. During the early part of the season he played alongside his brother Joe in Ramsgate's reserves and Joe had previously played for Margate's reserves during 2009/10 and 2010/11.
At the start of October 2012 Tom signed for Isthmian League Division 1 South outfit Whitstable and they were managed by his old Faversham boss Justin Lutchford at the time.
Tom only made two substitute appearances for Whitstable in the league and at the end of January 2013 he rejoined Ramsgate once again.
By the end of the 2012/13 campaign he'd made nine league appearances (four as sub) for the Rams without scoring.
In July 2013 Tom signed for Hythe of Division 1 South but in October 2013 he returned to Faversham.
