5' 8" tall Northern Irish midfielder born in Magharafelt, Derry who started his career with Queens Park Rangers and progressed through their youth ranks to the senior squad. Whilst playing for the R's youth sides Terry featured in Northern Ireland's Under-15, Under-16 and Under-18 teams and won a total of 55 caps at those three levels.

In March 2000 Terry made his first appearance for Northern Ireland's Under-21 side in a friendly in Malta and he also played twice for the QPR's first team at the end of the 1999/00 season. Terry made his debut as a substitute in a 3-0 defeat against Stockport in the 1st Division (later Championship) at Loftus Road on 28.4.00 and then started the R's last game of the season - a 1-1 draw at Wolves on 6.5.00.

Terry stayed with the R's for the 2000/01 campaign and captained the club's Under-19 side to the final of the Premier League Youth Academy play-offs. He was also a regular in QPR's reserve team and made numerous appearances for Northern Ireland Under-21's but at the end of the season he was released without featuring in the R's first team again. By then Terry had spent five years with the club.

In the summer of 2001 Terry trained with Leyton Orient but he ended up signing a two-year contract with Conference club Woking in August 2001. Terry made his debut for the Surrey club in a game at Chester on 18.8.01 and he went on to score once in ten appearances (five as sub) before joining Margate on a month's loan at the end of October 2001.

Terry made an unforgettable impact on his debut by crashing home a volley from fully 35 yards as Margate drew 1-1 with Boston in a Conference game at Hartsdown Park on 1.12.01. The Non-League Paper wrote "if there was a Conference goal of the month competition then Margate new boy Terry McFlynn would have scooped the title just 16 hours and five minutes into December" and the Thanet Times' match report was headlined "Terry's All Gold". The paper described his goal as a "super strike" and a "moment of magic" which "made it a debut he will never forget" and also said that Terry was "inventive" in Margate's midfield. Manager Chris Kinnear told the Thanet Times "He looks like he's going to be a good player for us, but he does need to get his fitness up."

After his stunning debut Terry was a fixture in the Margate side and the Thanet Times said he was "industrious" in a 2-2 draw at Leigh on 8.12.01. Later in December Terry told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "I'm definitely hoping to secure a permanent deal." His loan was extended into January 2002 and the Thanet Times said Terry turned in his "best performance to date" as Margate beat Farnborough 2-1 at Hartsdown Park on 5.1.02. His display was all the more impressive as he was suffering with 'flu at the time. The Non-League Paper's report on a 1-1 home draw with Scarborough on 26.1.02 described Terry as "ever-improving" and the Thanet Times said he "performed well" in the match.

At the end of January 2002 Terry's move became permanent and he signed a three-year contract a few days before a 2-0 home win over Leigh in the FA Trophy on 2.2.02. The Thanet Times praised the "creative flair" he showed during the game. On 12.2.02 Terry captained Northern Ireland's Under-21 side as they lost 1-0 to Germany at Windsor Park and Chris Kinnear told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "It's really good for Terry to get the recognition, and for the club, because a couple of years back we would never have had international call-ups."

On 9.3.02 Terry got his second goal when he struck just 80 seconds into a 4-3 win over his old club Woking at Hartsdown Park and he also scored in Margate's next match - a 4-2 win at Hayes on 12.3.02. As the 2001/02 campaign drew to a close Terry scored twice in a 5-0 home win over Ashford in the Kent Senior Cup semi-final on 23.4.02 and his second goal was a clever lob. He then hit the bar with a penalty as Margate were thrashed 5-0 by Gravesend & Northfleet in the final at Hartsdown Park on 6.5.02. In its end of season round-up the Isle of Thanet Gazette said Terry had "obvious class" and that his "neat flicks and stunning goals" had "lit up the season". He'd scored five times in 29 appearances during the campaign.

At the beginning of the 2002/03 season Terry struggled to gain a place in the side and although he featured in Margate's first eight games five of his appearances were as a substitute. The last of his three starts during the opening month of the campaign came in a 1-1 draw with Stevenage at Margate's adopted home in Dover on 7.9.02 and Terry played despite having featured as a sub for Northern Ireland's Under-21 side in a 1-1 draw with Scotland at St.Mirren the night before.

After a substitute appearance in a 3-2 defeat at Nuneaton on 14.9.02 Terry fell out of favour and didn't play at all in Margate's next nine matches. He was an unused sub for the first five of those games and then missed the trips to Farnborough (8.10.02) and Halifax (12.10.02) due to international duty - Terry captained Northern Ireland's Under-21's in matches against Spain and Ukraine. He spent two more games sitting on Margate's bench before finally returning to action as a substitute in a game at Scarborough on 2.11.02. Terry marked his comeback with a goal as Margate went down 3-2 and the Thanet Times said he "controlled the game well in midfield". He made one more sub appearance before making his first start for over two months as Margate drew 1-1 at Leyton Orient in the 1st Round Proper of the FA Cup on 16.11.02. It was the start of a good run in the side and Terry also played in the 1-0 win over the O's in the replay at Dover on 16.11.02. On 7.12.02 he was part of the Margate team that lost 3-0 against Cardiff at Dover in the 2nd Round of the FA Cup.

On 14.12.02 Terry got his second goal of the season in a 3-1 win at Stevenage but he was in and out of the side again for the next few weeks. His next goal was a 25 yard strike in the 89th minute of an epic game against Northwich at Hartsdown Park on 18.1.03. Terry came off the bench to level the scores at 4-4 when he buried a low drive into the bottom corner. The Thanet Times said "the old Hartsdown stands were almost lifted" by the rapturous response to his equaliser. He was on target again in a 3-1 win over Sittingbourne in a Kent Senior Cup tie at Hartsdown on 28.1.03 but Terry found himself on the bench again for Margate's next game - an FA Trophy tie at Worcester on 1.2.03. He came on at half-time and the Thanet Times said Terry was "rejuvenated" as he helped the side to a 2-0 win. He then missed Margate's next two games due to another call-up to the Northern Ireland Under-21 squad. Terry scored for them in their game against Scotland after coming off the bench.

He returned to the Margate starting line-up for a 1-0 win at Barnet on 15.2.03 and Terry then started the next six matches. In its report on a 2-1 win over Woking at Dover on 1.3.03 the Thanet Times referred to him as "the inspired Irishman". The paper then said Terry "shone in midfield" as Margate lost 2-1 to Yeovil at Dover on 22.3.03 but he missed the next three games due to further Northern Ireland Under-21's duty. On 5.4.03 he was back in the side for a 2-1 win over Halifax at Dover and Terry started the next Conference game too, playing as a striker in a 2-0 win at Southport on 12.4.03. After that he fell out favour once more and Terry only made three substitute appearances in the last four matches of the campaign. The last of them came as Margate won 2-1 at Welling on 30.4.03 in the Kent Senior Cup Final. He finished the season having scored four goals from 36 outings (13 as sub).

Terry impressed the Thanet Times in Margate's friendlies ahead of the 2003/04 campaign and in its report on a 3-0 win at Welling on 26.7.03 the paper said "he looks a different player from last season" and added "he is probably two stones lighter". The report also said Terry had "shown amazing movement and commitment...keep up form like this, and McFlynn is sure to be a target for clubs looking to hand the youngster a return to the Football League".

He started the first six matches of the new Conference season and on 12.8.03 Terry scored what the Isle of Thanet Gazette said was a "goal out of nothing" in a 2-1 defeat against Aldershot at Dover when he picked up a loose ball and curled a shot home. He was on target again in a 2-1 win at Forest Green on 30.8.03 and the Thanet Times said Terry's goal was a "stunner" and a "flash of genius" as he cut in from the right and curled the ball in from the corner of the penalty area. The paper said Terry's performance in midfield had been "eye-catching" and a few days later - on 5.9.03 - he captained Northern Ireland's Under 21's in a 1-0 defeat in Ukraine before scoring in a 3-1 home win over Armenia on 9.9.03.

After missing a game due to his international commitments Terry returned to the Margate side in a 3-2 defeat at Accrington on 13.9.03 but then picked up an ankle ligament injury that ruled him out of the next five matches. He missed a sixth game due to another Under-21 international - a 1-0 win in Greece on 10.10.03 - and that was Terry's 19th and final Under-21 appearance. He made his Margate comeback as a substitute in a 1-0 win at Scarborough on 18.10.03 and Terry then played once more as a sub before making his first start for six weeks in an FA Cup replay against Grays at Ashford on 28.10.03. He had a penalty saved as Margate lost a shoot-out after a 3-3 draw and Terry actually had two spot-kicks stopped as after his first effort was saved he had to retake it and the Grays keeper then blocked his second attempt.

Terry then started Margate's next three games but after he'd played in a 2-1 defeat at Hereford on 15.11.03 he was sold to Morecambe for £14,000. They were one of the Conference's full-time clubs and the fee was the highest ever declared by Margate. Terry had scored twice from 13 appearances (two as sub) before his transfer. Chris Kinnear told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "I don't think we really had a choice. These decisions are made at boardroom level. There are a lot of outgoings at the club at the moment and it was probably felt that it was an offer that had to go through." However chairman Jim Parmenter then responded by saying "If Chris Kinnear had wanted him to stay, he would have stayed."

Terry told the Nationwide's football website "I knew that if ever I got the chance to come to Morecambe, I would have been prepared to walk here from London" and he scored on his debut in a 2-1 home win over Stevenage on 22.11.03. On 18.4.04 Terry played for Morecambe as they drew 1-1 with Margate at Dover but he was substituted just after the hour mark and on 27.4.04 he played for Northern Ireland's Under-23's side in a 0-0 draw with visitors Serbia and Montenegro.

In December 2004 Terry was placed on the transfer list by Morecambe and their manager Jim Harvey said "He's got great talent, which I see in training, but he's not been able to produce that in the first team. Terry is a boy with tremendous ability but he has struggled to find it match by match for Morecambe. If Terry was 18 or 19 then maybe we could wait for him to develop and improve, but he is 24 next month and needs to kick on now." Terry was released by mutual consent in January 2005 and by then he'd made 37 first team appearances for Morecambe (11 as sub) and scored five times.

Soon after leaving Morecambe Terry moved to Australia as he was due to get married to his girlfriend Emma who hailed from Perth. Terry said "I hope to make a fresh start there" and his former Margate team-mate Chris Zoricich had suggested the move.

In March 2005 Terry signed for A-League club Sydney after impressing manager Pierre Littbarski during a trial spell and in June 2005 Terry helped Sydney to win The Oceania Championship which qualified the club for the FIFA Club World Championships in Japan in December 2005. By then former Manchester United star Dwight Yorke was one of Terry's team-mates. Towards the end of 2005 Pierre Littbarski said "Terry is a very good player for us...he works very hard in the midfield and always gives everything he has. He has a very high work rate and is still working hard at the end of the game."

In February 2010 Terry was granted permanent residency in Australia and on 20.3.10 he captained Sydney as they beat Melbourne Victory on penalties to win the A-League Grand Final in a match shown live in the UK on Sky Sports.

By January 2012 Terry had played over 130 A-League games for Sydney - the most in the club's history.
