5' 11" tall, Folkestone-born player who began his career with Hythe Town and then moved on to Folkestone during the 1980/81 season. Terry then had various spells with those two clubs during the 1981/82-1983/84 period before leaving Hythe to join Thanet United in the summer of 1984.
He made his debut on 18.8.84, the opening day of the 1984/85 season, and starred in midfield as Thanet beat Dorchester 1-0 at Hartsdown Park. The local Adscene newspaper said that Terry was "outstanding". He was a regular in the side during the early months of the season, occasionally filling in as a centre-back, but lost his place in the first team during October 1984. Terry then left the club in December 1984 and returned to Folkestone having made 13 appearances for United, scoring three goals.
Terry spent the 1985/86 season at Folkestone too and by that time his younger brother Gary was a member of the club's squad. He then had a spell out of football before rejoining Folkestone for the 1986/87 campaign. In October 1987 Terry was on the move again when he was one of six senior players to walk out on Folkestone in protest at the club's decision to ban their players from turning out in Sunday football.
He then joined Herne Bay, along with several other former Folkestone players including his brother Gary, before signing for Canterbury in February 1988. Gary also made the move to City.
Terry made 13 Southern League appearances for City before the end of the 1987/88 season and scored once.
In the summer of 1988 Terry rejoined Thanet and he made his first appearance as United lost 3-1 to Salisbury at Hartsdown on 20.8.88. He then played regularly in midfield and the Isle of Thanet Gazette described him as being "ever-reliable" and "a model of consistency". On 15.10.88 Terry was one of four Thanet players who caused the kick off for a game at Erith & Belvedere to be delayed by 15 minutes due to the car they were travelling to the match in breaking down. Clive Barham, Gary Collins and Pat Hilton were the others.
On 26.12.88 Terry was sent off for disputing a penalty awarded against United in a 2-1 defeat at Canterbury and on 11.2.89 he scored his first goal of the season when playing as a striker in a 2-1 win at Poole. A week later, on 18.2.89, Terry was sent off again as Thanet lost 5-2 at Salisbury and thus became the first Margate / Thanet player ever to be dismissed twice in the same season. The referee decided that he had thrown the punch which knocked a Salisbury player to ground during a scuffle involving several other players and gave Terry his marching orders for violent conduct. Thanet felt that it was a case of mistaken identity but failed to produce the name of the real culprit and decided against appealing. United's next match was a home encounter with Corinthian on 28.2.89 but immediately before the game Terry and Clive Barham had an argument with player-manager Garry Aldous and they didn't feature on the teamsheet. A few days later Aldous told the Thanet Times "neither of them has contacted me since and I can only assume they have finished with us". Terry had made 34 appearances and scored once before his sudden departure.
He joined Ashford for the start of the 1989/90 season and Terry then had a spell in local football before rejoining Hythe towards the end of the campaign. He broke his leg in one of Hythe's last games of the season.
In September 1990 Terry left Hythe to join Kent County League outfit Folkestone Invicta. At the time they were a separate club to Folkestone Town of the Southern League. He stayed with Invicta for the 1991/92 campaign, by which time they were the only senior club in Folkestone and were playing in the Kent League having taken over Cheriton Road following the demise of Folkestone Town. Terry was also the club's assistant manager during the 1991/92 and 1992/93 seasons although he had a short spell playing for Kitchee in Hong Kong towards the end of 1992. In January 1993 he was sacked by Folkestone along with his brother Gary and former Thanet United striker Micky Heynes following a breach of the club's disciplinary code.
Terry worked as a steel fixer in the mid-1980's and around that time a 'player profile' in Folkestone's programme revealed that his favourite film was 'Escape to Victory' and his favourite band was Dire Straits. Terry was a self-employed carpenter during his second spell with Thanet.
