Keeper from the Sittingbourne area who played for Sittingbourne's youth team during 1990/91 and then had spells with Sunderland and Gillingham before rejoining the Brickies in the summer of 1992 aged 19.
Towards the end of the 1992/93 season Steve had a loan spell at Tonbridge where he made seven appearances before returning to Central Park and he was loaned to Herne Bay during the early part of 1993/94.
In February 1994 Sittingbourne loaned Steve to Margate and he made his debut in 4-0 win over Burnham at Hartsdown Park on 12.2.94, shortly before his 21st birthday. The Thanet Times said he "barely had a shot worthy of the name to stop". Steve kept his place at the expense of the experienced Kevin Hudson for Margate's next game at Witney on 19.2.94 but he was sent off for bringing down a player just outside the penalty area. After serving a one match ban Steve enjoyed a run of five games during March 1994 but he was dropped after making crucial mistakes in a 4-1 home defeat against Salisbury on 26.3.94. Steve only played once more before the end of 1993/94 - in a 2-0 win at Buckingham on 30.4.94 - and then returned to Sittingbourne having made nine appearances for Margate.
He was released by the Brickies in the summer of 1994 and joined Tonbridge.
Steve spent two seasons with the Angels, breaking his leg during 1994/95, before linking up with Chatham in the summer of 1996.
He won both of Chatham's 'Player of the Year' awards for the 1996/97 campaign - being honoured by the players as well as the supporters - and stayed with the club for the start of 1997/98 too.
At the start of 1998 Steve rejoined Sittingbourne but he went back to Chatham again in the summer of 1998 and stayed there until the end of 1999/00 by which time he'd made over 150 appearances for the club.
In the summer of 2000 Steve signed for Dartford and spent two seasons there before returning to Sittingbourne again for the start of the 2002/03 campaign. During the season he made four appearances in a loan spell at Windsor & Eton and Steve also spent 2003/04 with the Brickies before moving on to Maidstone for the 2004/05 campaign.
He spent most of his time with the Stones as back-up to Kevin Hudson who he'd briefly replaced at Margate over ten years earlier and Steve's first game for Maidstone was a 2-1 home win over Redbridge in the FA Cup on 2.10.04 when Hudson was suspended.
He went back to Sittingbourne yet again in the summer of 2005 and stayed with the club for 2006/07 too. On 17.10.06 Steve headed an injury time equaliser in a 3-3 draw at Metropolitan Police and in November 2006 Ramsgate made an approach to sign him but Steve opted to stay at Sittingbourne. He made a total of 31 Isthmian League appearances (one as sub) for the Brickies during 2006/07.
In March 2008 Steve joined Conference South side Welling but Sittingbourne still held his Isthmian League registration. The Brickies secretary John Pitts told the club website "(Welling manager) Andy Ford asked to approach Steve. Steve will be on dual registration. In my view, Steve is one of the best keepers in non-league football." He made a few appearances for Welling before returning to Sittingbourne and by May 2008 Steve was also the club's goalkeeping coach. He was still at Sittingbourne during the 2008/09 season although he rarely played for the first team and concentrated mainly on his coaching duties. During 2009/10 Steve made three Isthmian League appearances for Sittingbourne.
By 2012 he was no longer playing and Steve was concentrating on his coaching work with Soccer Elite FA - a Kent-based company jointly owned by former Margate midfielder Lee Spiller.
