He then returned to Dover and stayed with the club until joining Canterbury during the 1982/83 campaign.
Steve made seven Southern League appearances (two as sub) for City, scoring once, and then went back to Dover, by then known as Dover Athletic, once more for 1983/84.
He moved to Gravesend & Northfleet in the summer of 1984 but before the 1984/85 season had ended Steve rejoined Dover again, only to go back to Gravesend for the start of the 1985/86 campaign.
In March 1986 Steve left Stonebridge Road to join Thanet United and he made his debut in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Cambridge City on 25.3.86. He was ever-present from then on, making 13 appearances in midfield before the end of the 1985/86 season. Steve didn't manage a goal but won praise from the local press for his energetic displays, the Thanet Times said that he "never stopped running" as United drew 0-0 with Erith & Belvedere at Hartsdown on 17.4.86.
Steve stayed with United for the 1986/87 campaign and he turned in some excellent performances during the early months of the season, usually playing in midfield but also operating as a winger or as a striker on occasions. The Isle of Thanet Gazette described him as a "dynamo" and the Thanet Times said that Steve was "tricky", "sprightly" and "always in the thick of the fray". On 26.12.86 he finally scored his first goal for the club, a rasping 20 yard effort in a 5-1 defeat at Dover, and on 1.1.87 Steve scored twice in a 3-1 win over Ashford at Hartsdown. The Thanet Times said that he was "razor-sharp throughout and undoubtedly Man of the Match" and Steve's goals were a low strike from the edge of the penalty area and a stunning swerving drive from fully 30 yards. It was described as being "generally regarded as the finest goal seen on the ground for many a day" in the Thanet Times' match report. It was Steve's last goal for Thanet and after playing in a 0-0 draw at Canterbury on 14.2.87 he left the club. He'd made 37 appearances (one as sub) and scored three goals during the season.
Steve joined Ashford after leaving Hartsdown Park and stayed with the club for the 1987/88 campaign, breaking his jaw early in the season and going for a trial with Brentford during the campaign. He made 51 Southern League appearances for Ashford and scored six goals.
In the summer of 1988 Steve returned to Canterbury and scored once in ten Southern League appearances for City during the early part of 1988/89 before going back to Gravesend towards the end of 1988.
By the time Steve left the Fleet at the end of the 1988/89 season he'd made a career total of 58 appearances (one as sub) for the club, scoring four goals.
Steve rejoined Canterbury for the 1989/90 campaign, his third spell with the club, and made 22 Southern League appearances for City during the season, scoring twice. One of his goals came with a header in a 1-1 draw with Margate at Hartsdown on 26.12.89, Steve raced 30 yards to get on the end of a cross and the Isle of Thanet Gazette said that it was "a magnificent goal".
He played for Kent University Reserves in the Kent County League during 1992/93 alongside former Thanet United player Darren Hare.
Steve later had a fourth stint with Canterbury that included the 1994/95 and 1995/96 seasons and he then linked up with Folkestone for the 1996/97 campaign.
In January 1998 Steve moved on to Whitstable and he also made a few appearances for the Oystermen during 1998/99.
During the 2003/04 season Steve was playing for Littlebourne in the Canterbury & District Sunday League.
In 2012 he was living in Chilham, Kent.
