Steve kept his place for the next three matches but then had to serve a six week suspension carried over from 1988/89. He returned to the side in October 1989 and had one game at centre-back before playing in midfield in a 2-2 draw at Sheppey on 17.10.89. After his departure from Hartsdown Park Steve returned to Alma Swanley.
During his time with Margate he worked as a builder and lived in Blackheath.
