Maidstone-born keeper who played for Kent as a schoolboy and had a spell on Charlton's books before joining Gravesend & Northfleet as part of the club's PASE youth scheme. Scott was released by the Fleet at the end of the 2002/03 season.

In the summer of 2003 he was picked up by Watford and played in the Hornets' youth sides during the 2003/04 campaign as a non-contract player. Scott also turned out for Bearsted during the season and was part of their team that won the Kent Youth League South Division and Under-18 Cup double. Future Margate player Roberto Corbishley was also in the Bearsted side.

Scott featured in Watford's Under-18's team during the early part of the 2004/05 campaign and then had a short spell with Boreham Wood before joining Rushden & Diamonds towards the end of 2004.

During the remainder of 2004/05 he played in Rushden's youth team and reserves and also made the first team bench for a game at Chester on 5.2.05. In April 2005 Scott turned out for Mansfield's reserves when they arrived for a match at Rushden without a keeper and helped the Stags to a 2-0 win over his parent club. He was released at the end of the season.

In the summer of 2005 Scott was signed by Mansfield as a non-contract player and in October 2005 he moved on to Southern League club Ashford (Middlesex) where he spent the rest of the 2005/06 campaign.

In July 2006 Scott joined Margate on trial and in its report on 1-1 draw with a Millwall X1 on 8.7.06 the Thanet Times said he "did his chances of earning a contract with Margate no harm whatsoever with a faultless performance". Player-manager Robin Trott told the Isle of Thanet Extra "Scott rang up and asked for a trial and he did really well." After featuring in most of Margate's friendlies Scott was signed for the 2006/07 campaign and a few days before the start of the season Robin Trott told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "He's quite quiet but determined and knows what he can do. A good shot-stopper, you feel confident with him behind you."

Scott made his debut in a 5-2 win at Worthing in the Isthmian League Premier Division on 19.8.06 and the Thanet Times said he made some "superb saves". For the next couple of months Scott was a fixture in the side and his form kept Charlie Mitten on the subs bench. The Isle of Thanet Gazette said Scott was "arguably the star of the show" in a 5-1 win at Folkestone on 28.8.06 whilst the Thanet Times said he "proved what a talent he is" during a 3-0 win over Chelmsford at Hartsdown Park on 2.9.06. A few days later Robin Trott told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "Scott's a fantastic goalkeeper. If you can get a keeper who will save you a goal a game, that's what you want. I took a gamble on him but I liked him anyway and he's proving his worth. It's his ambition to get back in the league and I'd love him to get there."

Scott continued to build on his impressive start and the Gazette said he made "two more outstanding saves" in a 2-0 win at Walton & Hersham on 5.9.06. In its report on a 0-0 home draw with Fleet in the FA Cup on 16.9.06 the Thanet Times said Scott was "the only reason Margate have another chance" and described him as being "a revelation all season". The paper said he made "four top-class saves" including a "brilliant reaction save at his near-post" in the closing minutes. Margate won the replay at Fleet on 19.9.06 1-0 but towards the end of the game Scott landed on his head after a late challenge and had to go to hospital to be checked over. He couldn't remember anything about the match. Scott was fit enough to play again four days later as Margate drew 0-0 with AFC Wimbledon at Hartsdown Park and the Thanet Times said he made an "unbelievable" save on the half-hour mark to turn over an effort from six yards.

On 14.10.06 Scott was sent off three minutes from the end of a 2-1 home defeat against Potters Bar in the FA Cup after being adjudged to have handled outside his penalty area. The Thanet Times felt he was unlucky and said "it looked a borderline call and the linesman seemed to be guessing". Scott played in the next two games but after a 3-1 win at Wivenhoe in the FA Trophy on 21.10.06 he had to miss a match due to suspension and Charlie Mitten stood in for him. By then Scott had played in each of Margate's first 17 games of the season.

He was available again as Margate travelled to Gloucester for an FA Trophy tie on 4.11.06 but Robin Trott opted to continue with Mitten in goal and later told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "Scott took the decision horrendously when I left him out." He was back in the side for a Kent Senior Cup tie at VCD on 8.11.06 as most senior players were rested and the Isle of Thanet Gazette said Scott "made two unbelievable saves" as Margate lost 1-0. He then sat out the next five games as Mitten staked his claim to be first-choice before being recalled for a 4-0 win at Horsham on 9.12.06.

Scott kept his place for the next five matches but on 13.1.07 he made an error which led to Worthing scoring during a 2-1 win at Hartsdown Park. The Thanet Times called it the "cock-up of the season" as a long ball fell between Scott and defender Greg Oates and they both left it for each other, allowing a Worthing player to get between them and finish. Scott was dropped afterwards and then sat out three games before taking over from Mitten once more for a home game against Carshalton on 6.2.07. The Isle of Thanet Gazette said Scott made "four top-class saves" as Margate won 1-0 and he started each of the next four matches up to and including a 2-0 defeat against his old club Boreham Wood at Hartsdown Park on 10.3.07. Scott then lost his place to Mitten again and spent the next eight games on the subs bench.

Over a month after his last appearance Scott returned to first team action on 14.4.07 when he replaced the injured Mitten after 37 minutes of a match at Chelmsford. Margate won 3-1 and Scott then started a home game against his former club Ashford on 21.4.07. The Thanet Times said he "was understandably shaky" due to having "his confidence rocked by playing second fiddle to Charlie Mitten" as Margate drew 1-1 but he kept his place for the last game of the season - a 1-0 defeat at Hendon on 28.4.07. He finished the campaign having made 32 appearances (one as sub) and Scott kept ten clean sheets in those matches.

In May 2007 Robin Trott decided to release Charlie Mitten and keep Scott and he told the Thanet Times "Scott Chalmers-Stevens made an excellent start coming down from full-time football and adjusting to our level. Scott's only 20, has ambition to go full-time and he's the one with the price-tag around his neck. If he has a good season next year then you never know. He just needs to talk more and dominate his area, and work on his kicking, but not many goalkeepers are as good as he is at 20."

In the summer of 2007 Scott signed a new two-year contract and he told the Thanet Times "Some bosses I've had have been non-approachable and I've not got on with them but it's not like that with Trotty. I'm looking to start the same way I did last season. I've got a few things to prove to myself and a few people, because no one likes losing their spot. It's going to be a big year for me. Charlie's not here anymore, so I'm the senior keeper and I have to step up to the plate."

Shortly before the start of the new campaign Robin Trott told the Isle of Thanet Gazette that Scott was "A brilliant keeper, the only thing that lets him down is his talking. If he starts talking he'll go a long way in the game." Trott also said that Scott was "The number one keeper here but there's always room for competition."

He started the season in good form and the Thanet Times said Scott "pulled off an excellent fingertip save to deny City an opener" as Margate drew 1-1 with visitors Chelmsford in the first Isthmian League Premier Division game of the new campaign on 18.8.07. The Isle of Thanet Gazette said he displayed "top reflexes" and "pulled off a blinding reaction save" in a 1-1 draw with AFC Wimbledon at Hartsdown Park on 25.9.07 and new loan signing Karle Carder-Andrews made his debut that day. His appearance was significant as it meant that with Scott in goal Margate fielded two players with double-barreled surnames for the first time since 1906.

The Thanet Times said he made "two outstanding saves" in the second half of an epic 4-3 win against Fisher at Dulwich in an FA Cup tie played on 29.9.07 and the Gazette praised Scott for a "superb flying stop from a 25-yard free-kick" in a 2-1 home win over Leyton on 16.10.07. He then saved a penalty in an FA Trophy tie at Leamington on 3.11.07 to prevent the home side going 2-0 up and Margate eventually drew 1-1. In its report on the replay at Hartsdown Park on 6.11.07 that Margate lost 1-0 the Isle of Thanet Gazette said Scott was at fault for Leamington's winner and wrote "the youngster has been struggling with crosses all season but his shot-stopping's so good he should be full of confidence to come for everything at his age".

The Thanet Times said Scott was "the hero with three tremendous first-half saves" in a 1-0 win at Billericay on 24.11.07 and his good form continued as 2007 came to an end with the Gazette claiming his "heroics...prevented Chelmsford from getting double figures" as Margate were thrashed 5-1 in Essex on 22.12.07.

Scott continued gaining plaudits from the local press at the start of 2008 and the Thanet Times praised him for an "inspired performance" in a 4-2 win over Carshalton at Hartsdown Park on 19.1.08. The paper wrote that he was "in his element dealing with shot-stopping and one-on-ones" and then said Scott made "two unbelievable reaction saves" including one in the dying seconds as Margate held on to beat visitors Billericay 1-0 on 8.3.08.

The low point of Scott's season came on 15.3.08 when he was substituted 75 minutes into a game at AFC Hornchurch having been "lobbed twice in bizarre circumstances" according to the Thanet Times. The errors gave the home side a 2-0 lead which they held to the end and Scott was replaced by 16 year-old debutant Aleks Krunic. The Thanet Times said it was "one of the rarest sights in football" and shortly before Scott was replaced the paper said he'd "capped a terrible day by laying out team-mate Ryan Peters after a breakdown in communication led to the pair colliding". Robin Trott explained his decision to take Scott off by saying "I've seen keepers subbed when they're having a shocker. Not many times but what's the point of having a keeper on the bench ? They're there to play and he (Krunic) couldn't have done any worse. I'm sure Scott's big enough to deal with being subbed. It's not over for him - things are in his hands. You get on with it or you ponder for the rest of your life. You have to move on." A few days later Trott told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "Scott has the ability to be a hell of a keeper. He's upset with being dragged on Saturday, which is understandable, but I do things my way - the right way."

Scott kept his place in goal as Margate entertained Wealdstone in their next match on 22.3.08 and the Thanet Times said he made a "series of decent saves" as the game ended in a 3-3 draw. After a 4-2 win at Leyton on 12.4.08 Robin Trott told the Your Thanet newspaper "Scott did ever so well in the second half. He didn't have a lot to do, but what he did, he did well." and the Thanet Times said he "saved the day with a tremendous stop" with seconds to go as Margate held on to beat Heybridge 5-4 at Hartsdown Park on 5.4.08. Scott finished the season having kept seven clean sheets in 48 appearances and he only missed one league match which was the last game of the campaign at Harrow on 26.4.08.

At the end of April 2008 it was announced that Scott had been transfer-listed by Margate, a decision made by the board and not Steve McKimm who was caretaker player-manager at the time. McKimm told the Thanet Times "Scott's one of the best shot-stoppers in the league but, as I've said to him on a number of occasions, he needs to command his area better. If he came out and claimed a few crosses, it would give everyone confidence. Just because he's on the list doesn't mean he's leaving. The club may be doing it as a wake-up call."

Scott responded to the news by telling the Thanet Times he felt he was being made a scapegoat for a disappointing season which saw Margate miss out on the play-offs and he said "I think I've had a very average season but you don't become a bad player overnight. I thought I had a good season last year and obviously the club did to offer me a two-year deal. They saw the potential and promise. I'm still only 21 and for a keeper that's a baby. I've had some good games, some OK ones and a couple of bad ones. But, saying that, I don't think a lot of people realise that I've played 50 games this season. You are going to have a mix of games when you're playing that often. Also, a lot are quick to forget certain games. Games like Carshalton, when we were getting absolutely battered and I made about eight saves and we won 4-2. Or Maidstone when I made a save in the last minute and we went up the other end and won 2-1. I accept mistakes will cost us goals and are going to be highlighted but mistakes will happen. Everyone is at this level for a reason. I've also played through injuries - because I wanted to play - that people don't know about. For the last three weeks I've had an ankle injury. The only way I thought I'd be leaving here this summer was if we'd had a good season and another club wanted to buy me. It's happened this way but I'm still confident in my own ability. I'll go and do well somewhere else."

Scott picked up an ankle injury ahead of the 2008/09 campaign but recovered to feature in Margate's last four friendlies under new manager Barry Ashby despite still being on the transfer list. On the eve of the new season he told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "I'm still here, I'm hyped up to the max to prove a point and I hope I've done enough in pre-season to get the shirt. I'll be hugely disappointed if I don't start at Carshalton. The manager's told me I start with a clean slate and if I play well I'll be in the team...I had no intention of leaving. I was told by the club I wouldn't be playing and could go. I did speak to a couple of clubs after that but I was only gonna move if it was right for me. I asked the manager about coming off the list and he said it makes no difference to him - if I play well there'll be no problem. A lot of people are saying I'll be busy. Hopefully I can shine every week if I am chucking myself in front of everything."

Scott didn't feature in Margate's opening game at Carshalton or in the match that followed it as Barry Ashby decided on Pat Mullin as his first-choice keeper but when Mullin broke his foot in training Scott got his chance. He made his first appearance of the season in a 4-0 home defeat against Canvey Island in the Isthmian League Premier Division on 23.8.08 and started each of the next six games up to and including a 5-1 defeat at Worthing in the FA Cup on 13.9.08. Scott then injured a thumb and had to sit out four matches which prompted Margate to bring in young Spurs keeper Lee Butcher to cover for him.

Scott returned to action as Margate took on Hendon in an FA Trophy tie at Hartsdown Park on 18.10.08 but four minutes into the game he allowed a tame shot to squirm under his body for the only goal of the match. Scott also started the next four games and in its report on a 2-0 home defeat against Maidstone on 28.10.08 the Isle of Thanet Gazette said he made "an excellent save" to deny former Margate striker James Pinnock just before half-time.

On 8.11.08 Scott turned in a great performance as Margate lost 2-0 at Horsham and the Thanet Times said "the defeat would have been heavier but for some excellent saves from Scott Chalmers-Stevens". The paper also wrote he "had an outstanding second half" and made "two superb saves in the opening five minutes" of the second period. It turned out to be Scott's last appearance for Margate as he was suddenly dropped by new manager Terry Yorath and rarely even featured on the subs bench as Pat Mullin enjoyed a long run in goal.

At the end of November 2008 Yorath's assistant Neville Southall spoke to the Isle of Thanet Gazette about the goalkeeping situation and said "There's not a lot between them but Pat looks steadier at the moment and you have to go for the one who will make the least mistakes. Personally I think Scott will do all right for himself in future."

Having been completely frozen out at Margate Scott signed for Dover in March 2009 and the Thanet Times described him as being "as good a shot-stopper as there is in the league" but also said Scott had been "exposed coming for crosses and suffered a loss of form and confidence". He'd made 12 appearances during 2008/09.

Scott only played once for Dover - as they won 3-2 at Billericay in the Isthmian League Premier Division on 21.3.09 on the way to clinching the league title - and then left the club at the end of the season.

In the summer of 2009 he joined Ashford (Kent) and made 28 appearances (one as sub) for them in the Isthmian League Division 1 South during 2009/10.

In June 2010 Scott was interviewed for the Kentish Football website and at that time he was working as a coach for Maidstone-based company Soccer Elite along with the likes of former Margate midfielder Lee Spiller. Scott told Kentish Football "I left school with the idea I was going to be a professional footballer. I was with Watford for two years and Rushden & Diamonds. It took me a good year to get my head around non-league football." He explained how he'd ended up joining Margate and said "I sent out a general enquiry to Kent based clubs as I live in Maidstone and lucky enough I played for Margate in a friendly against Millwall and played really well and I signed for that season I was fresh out of the league and I was training part-time at Millwall during the week and that season I was flying because I was in and around the full-time league so when you train with the part-time players you're very much sharper."

In July 2010 Scott played for Cray as they beat Crockenhill 3-0 in a friendly but he ended up joining Hastings for the start of the 2010/11 campaign.

He made 15 appearances for Hastings in the Isthmian League Premier Division before signing for Cray in March 2011.

Scott didn't feature in Cray's first team and in the summer of 2011 he linked up with Carshalton, also of the Premier Division.

Having failed to break into Carshalton's team Scott joined Isthmian League Division 1 South outfit Whitstable in September 2011 and their manager Peter Nott was quoted as saying "Better late than never." having been trying to sign Scott for some time. He took over in goal from Matt Lamprell who'd joined Whitstable from Margate in the summer of 2011. After making nine league appearances for the Oystermen Scott left Whitstable at the end of November 2011 after another former Margate keeper - Jack Smelt - was signed to replace him.

At the start of December 2011 Scott joined Division 1 North club Maldon & Tiptree and the link with former Margate keepers continued as he took over in goal from 2005/06 loanee Darren Behcet there. In addition Margate's former assistant manager Mike Flanagan was Maldon's caretaker manager at the time. Scott played in 28 league games before the end of the 2011/12 campaign.

In July 2012 he turned out for Maidstone in a 5-1 friendly win at Bearsted and Scott also featured in some of the Stones other pre-season matches before the club decided on former Margate keeper Charlie Mitten as their second choice and chose not to offer Scott a deal.

A week into the 2012/13 campaign he signed for Conference South outfit Tonbridge as back-up to Lee Worgan and early in September 2012 Scott joined Kent League club Erith & Belvedere on a dual-registration basis. He made his debut for the Deres in a 2-2 draw with Canterbury at Herne Bay on 8.9.12.

Scott returned to Tonbridge early in October 2012 when Lee Worgan picked up an injury and made his first start in the Conference South on 6.10.12 as the Angels drew 2-2 at Sutton.

In May 2013 Scott was appointed as Tonbridge's player-goalkeeper coach and acted as the Angels' back-up keeper for the first half of the 2013/14 season. Early in February 2014 he signed for Isthmian League Premier Division outfit Canvey Island on a dual-registration basis.

Margate finished in relegation position but were reprieved and remained in the Isthmian League Premier Division.
