Greenwich-born skilful left-footed player who started his senior career with Kent League club Beckenham. Ryan played for them during the 2005/06 season and then signed for Conference South club Fisher in the summer of 2006. The Fish had close ties with Beckenham at the time and during the 2006/07 campaign Ryan had a loan spell back at Beckenham. He was released by Fisher in May 2007.

In the summer of 2007 Ryan featured in some of Herne Bay's friendlies but he joined Isthmian League Premier Division club Tonbridge for the start of the 2007/08 season proper.

He made ten league appearances (six as sub) for the Angels without scoring during the early part of the new campaign before signing for Margate in November 2007.

Player-manager Robin Trott told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "He's young and got a lot of energy. We had to get someone in." and Ryan made his debut in the number 11 shirt as Margate lost 4-3 to Maidstone in an Isthmian League Premier Division game at Hartsdown Park on 17.11.07. The Thanet Times said he "showed pace and trickery down the left, delivering some decent balls, too" and Robin Trott told the paper "He's only 20 but he's got a lot about him." Ryan was a regular in the side from then on, usually playing on the left wing but sometimes featuring in a more central role.

On 15.12.07 he scored his first goals for Margate when he struck twice in a 4-1 home win over East Thurrock and the Thanet Times said Ryan was "a real bag of tricks down the left". He got his next goal in a 2-1 win over visitors Chatham in the Kent Senior Cup on 22.1.08 and by the end of February 2008 Ryan had taken his tally to five with goals in a 3-2 defeat at his old club Tonbridge on 9.2.08 and a 1-1 draw at Hendon on 23.2.08.

The Thanet Times said he was "impressive" in a 1-0 win over Billericay at Hartsdown Park on 8.3.08 and on 5.4.08 Ryan scored what the paper described as "a screamer" in a remarkable 5-4 home win over Heybridge when he "arrowed home a 30-yard cracker into the top corner". He made his final appearance in a 5-4 defeat against Folkestone at Hartsdown Park on 19.4.08 and Ryan was then released before the last game of the 2007/08 campaign. Margate's caretaker player-manager Steve McKimm told the Thanet Times "I feel a bit sorry for him because he wanted to finish the season. The club wanted to look at players in his position, so it's saved a week's money by letting him go. He had some very decent games for us. He's got possible trials with a couple of league clubs, so hopefully something will happen for him." Ryan had scored six goals from 27 outings (one as sub) during his time at Margate.

In the summer of 2008 he had a trial with Charlton before playing in a friendly for Cheltenham on 12.7.08. Ryan scored as they won 2-0 at Worcester and he then had a trial at AFC Bournemouth later in July 2008.

In August 2008 Ryan joined Welling and scored a hat-trick on his debut as they won 4-0 at Bath in the Conference South on 9.8.08. His treble included a stunning free-kick but after scoring three more goals for the Wings Ryan was released in October 2008.

In November 2008 he signed for Isthmian League Premier Division outfit Carshalton and Ryan scored twice from 26 league appearances (five as sub) for the Robins before leaving the club at the end of the 2008/09 season.

Ryan then had a three year spell out of senior football before resurfacing in the summer of 2012 when he played in several friendlies for Isthmian League Premier Division outfit Cray but he wasn't signed by the club for the 2012/13 campaign.

In 2005 Ryan featured in Sky TV's 'Dream Team' programme as part of the squad of fictional club Harchester United.
