Forward from the London area who started his career with spells at Ashford (including 1953/54) and Sittingbourne. Roy then undertook his National Service, becoming a fitness instructor in the army.

He signed for Margate in September 1957, immediately after being demobbed, and Roy went on to become one of the reserve team's leading scorers during the 1957/58 campaign, hitting 13 goals for them. He also made two first team appearances, scoring on his debut in a 6-1 win over Sheppey at Hartsdown on Boxing Day 1957.

Roy left Margate in August 1958, frustrated by a lack of first team football which was partly the result of a disagreement with manager Almer Hall. Roy trained near his home and wouldn't travel to Margate for training which didn't endear him to Hall.

After leaving Hartsdown Roy dropped into amateur football and having been a semi-professional player with Margate he had to apply to the Football Association in order to regain his amateur status. He had to pay for a permit every year from then on.

Roy went on to enjoy a lengthy spell with Plumstead Maybloom, an amateur club in the London area, and he was still turning out for them during the 1960's.

He worked as a teacher and later became a successful bowls player, Roy represented Kent at the sport.

Roy died in North Kent aged 70 on 8.12.04.
