Roger made his first team debut on 26.9.60 in a game at York and later in the 1960/61 season he was picked for the England Youth team. He was the first Gillingham player to gain such an honour.

Roger went on to make a handful of appearances for the Gills spanning the 1960/61-1962/63 seasons but struggled to gain a regular place due to the form of Dennis Hunt, a future Margate manager.

In the summer of 1964 Roger was released and he joined Crewe on a three month trial in August 1964, making three Football League appearances for them during the early part of the 1964/65 season.

When Crewe released him Roger joined Margate on a month's trial in November 1964 and made his debut at left-back in a 5-0 win at Deal on 19.11.64. However he only played once more before being released when the month was up.

Roger then joined South African club Marist Brothers early in 1965.

He later linked up with Sheppey, joining them early in 1968, and then moved to Tonbridge in 1970.

In the summer of 1971 Roger joined Gravesend & Northfleet and after making 30 appearances (four as sub) during the 1971/72 season and scoring once he returned to Sheppey in June 1972.

He helped Sheppey to win the Kent League title during 1972/73 and Roger was still playing for the club during the 1974/75 campaign.

In 2001 he was living in his native Rochester.
