Enthusiastic striker who joined Margate from Deal towards the end of the 1972/73 season and made his debut as a substitute in a 2-1 defeat at Nuneaton on 19.3.73. Paul went on to make a total of four appearances before the end of the campaign and also scored four goals. The first of them came during a 4-0 win over Canterbury in a Kent Floodlight Cup tie at Hartsdown on 26.3.73. Paul then scored a hat-trick in the return fixture at Canterbury on 17.4.73 to cap an impressive start to his Margate career.
He stayed with the club for the 1973/74 season but spent the majority of the campaign in the reserves, often playing as a centre-back for them. However Paul also made a further ten first team appearances (two as sub) and scored twice. He was described as "promising" by the local press and capable of "inspiring play" but at the end of the season he left the club.
Paul then joined Ashford and during the summer of 1975 he had a spell in Toronto, Canada where he played for London City alongside the likes of Steve Breach, Phil Brooman, Barry Brown, Ray Flannigan, John Hold and Graham Sawyer.
Paul linked up with Dover for the 1975/76 season and played almost exclusively for their reserves, scoring only once for the first team during the campaign.
In the summer of 1977 Paul joined Canterbury but he only made three Southern League appearances (one as sub) without scoring for City during the 1977/78 season before being released.
