Left-sided player born in Canterbury who started his career at Dover where he played in the youth team before joining Charlton early in the 1989/90 season.
Paul played for the Addicks 'Colts' side and then signed for Gillingham as a trainee in August 1990. He scored 12 goals for the Gills' youth team during 1990/91. At the start of 1992 Paul had a loan spell at Colchester and shortly after returning to Priestfield in March 1992 he joined Margate on loan at the same time as his team-mate Nicky Forster.
Paul made his debut in midfield as Margate won 1-0 at Newport IOW on 28.3.92. He was 18 at the time and returned to Gillingham almost immediately without making another senior appearance for Margate.
At the end of the 1991/92 campaign Paul briefly returned to Hartsdown Park and played for the reserves in a 4-0 win over Tonbridge in the Kent Midweek League on 7.5.92.
He joined Margate on a permanent basis in the summer of 1992 having been released by Gillingham and the Thanet Times said that Paul "often took the eye with dogged tackling and intelligent overlapping" in a 4-1 win over Wealdstone at Watford on 22.8.92. He was a fixture in the side at left-back for the first few months of the season and on 26.9.92 Paul scored his first goal from the penalty spot in a 4-1 home defeat against Chertsey in the FA Cup. In mid-November 1992 he lost his place to loan signing Michael Harle and Paul sat out ten games before regaining the number three shirt at the start of January 1993. On 16.1.93 he scored in a 3-1 win at Burnham and in February 1993 Paul was switched to the left wing for four matches, the last of them being a 4-0 win over Burnham at Hartsdown on 6.3.93. A few days later he was released and joined Sheppey having scored twice in 33 appearances (one as sub).
In January 1994 Paul linked up with Canterbury and he stayed with City until the end of the 1993/94 campaign.
He played for Dover's reserves during the 1998/99 season and later dropped into the Kent County League. Paul had a spell with St.Margaret's before joining Snowdown Colliery Welfare for the 2003/04 season.
In 2012 he was living in Aylesham, Kent and working as a postman.
A relative of Paul's, probably his father, played for Snowdown during the 1970's.
