No-nonsense defender who played for RACS Colts as a youngster. Paul later made five appearances for Arsenal's Youth team, scoring on his debut for them.

In the summer of 1989 Paul joined Margate and made his debut as a substitute towards the end of a 2-0 win at Corinthian in a Southern League Cup tie on 26.9.89. Despite only being on the pitch for a few minutes Paul picked up a booking. He also came on as sub in Margate's next game - a 3-0 win over Andover at Hartsdown Park on 7.10.89 - but it was his last first team appearance. He left the club soon afterwards having also played twice for the reserves.

Paul's next club was Welling and he then joined Fisher where he was 'Player of the Year' for their reserves during 1990/91.

Paul moved on to Cray for 1993/94 and then spent 1994/95 and 1995/96 with Greenwich.

He joined Erith & Belvedere for the 1996/97 campaign and he was captain there before going back to Greenwich towards the end of 1997/98. On 27.1.98 he'd scored Erith's equaliser in a 1-1 home draw with Margate.

In the summer of 1998 Paul returned to Thanet and joined Ramsgate for the 1998/99 season. He stayed with the Rams until July 2001 when he signed for Maidstone.

During 2003/04 Paul moved on to Dartford and in March 2004 he rejoined Cray for a short second spell.

Paul linked up with VCD in the summer of 2004 and he was their captain during the 2005/06 and 2006/07 seasons. In May 2007 he became the club's player-manager although he rarely appeared during 2007/08. During the 2008/09 campaign Paul led VCD to the Kent League title but he resigned as manager in May 2010 after the club's first season in the Isthmian League and almost immediately took over as Isthmian League Division 1 South club Chatham's boss.

In April 2011 Paul resigned as Chatham's manager with just three games of the 2010/11 campaign to go. Chatham were second from bottom of the league at that point.

His father Theo Foley once managed Charlton and was also on the coaching staff at Arsenal. He was assistant manager at Highbury during Paul's time with Margate. Paul's brother Adrian played in the Southern League for clubs including Dover and Dartford.

During the later years of his career Paul was a Chartered Surveyor.
