Ramsgate-born attacker who first came to prominence in local youth football during the 1976/77 season. In the summer of 1977 Paul joined Margate and played for the reserves during the 1977/78 and 1978/79 campaigns.
He moved to Ramsgate for the 1979/80 season and then had a short spell at Herne Bay during 1980/81 before rejoining the Rams. Paul stayed at Southwood until the summer of 1983 when he returned to Hartsdown Park to join Thanet United.
Paul was a regular goalscorer for United's reserves during the 1983/84 campaign and he also made three first team appearances, making his debut when he came on as a substitute for the injured Bob Walter in an FA Cup tie against Pagham on 21.9.83. The match was played at Bognor Regis and United won 1-0. Paul had to wait for his full debut but finally got his chance on 10.12.83 when Hillingdon visited Hartsdown Park for a Southern League game. He had an excellent match in an attacking role as United won 1-0 and the local Sportsweek newspaper said that Paul turned in a "gutsy display...forever probing at the Hillingdon defence and never allowing them to settle". He also started Thanet's game at Waterlooville the following Saturday but then returned to the reserves for the remainder of the season before leaving the club in the summer of 1984.
Paul rejoined Herne Bay for the 1984/85 campaign and later returned to Ramsgate where he spent several seasons.
On 1.11.86 he came on as substitute to score a hat-trick as the Rams beat Metropolitan Police 3-1, all the goals coming in the last 15 minutes. Soon afterwards Paul suffered a broken leg but he recovered to play for the Rams once again during the 1987/88 season. He was still there during 1989/90 when he made one first team appearance.
In September 1990 Paul returned to Hartsdown Park after an absence of over six years and went on to make 12 appearances for Margate's reserves during the 1990/91 campaign, scoring five goals. They included a hat-trick in a 5-1 win over Faversham Reserves at Hartsdown on 29.9.90. He then rejoined Ramsgate at the end of the season.
Paul was still with the Rams during 1993/94 and was mainly playing for the reserves at that time.
In 2012 he was running his own music management company and living in the Manchester area.
