Chatham-born striker who was on Gillingham's books as a schoolboy before starting his senior career at Sittingbourne.
In the summer of 1991 Paul left the Brickies to join Margate and after scoring a hat-trick for the club's Under-18's in a 6-1 win over Herne Bay Under 18's on 25.8.91 he was picked as a substitute for the first team's game at home to Ashford the next day. Paul came on for his debut as Margate drew 2-2 and he made three further sub appearances over the next few weeks, the last of them in a 1-0 win at Abingdon in an FA Trophy tie on 24.9.91. Paul then returned to the Under-18's for the remainder of the campaign and top scored for them with 15 goals including four in a 6-1 win over Folkestone Invicta Under 18's on 5.1.92. He also played for Kent's Under-18 side before leaving Hartsdown Park at the end of the 1991/92 season.
Paul started the 1992/93 campaign at Chatham but by January 1993 he had moved on to Corinthian. In April 1993 he suffered a head injury in a game at Chatham and had to be air-lifted to hospital by helicopter.
Paul joined Faversham in the summer of 1993 and played regularly there during 1993/94, 1994/95 and 1995/96. He also made a one-off appearance for Herne Bay during 1994/95.
Paul played for Lordswood during 1996/97 and then linked up with Canterbury for the start of the 1997/98 campaign.
Paul joined Maidstone United (then in the Kent County League) in the summer of 1998 and he was a first team regular throughout 1998/99. On 5.12.98 Paul played the whole game in goal as Maidstone beat Farnborough 3-2. He started the 1999/00 season with the Stones but left the club before the end of 1999.
Paul later played for Kent County League outfit Bly Spartans and he was with them during the 2003/04 season.
He also had a spell with Hollands and Blair in the Kent County League, making ten appearances there.
His surname was sometimes incorrectly listed as being spelt Aitken.
