Locally-born keeper who progressed through Margate's youth ranks and played for Kent whilst at school. Pat was in Margate's Under-16's side during the 1996/97 campaign and in March 1997 he signed schoolboy forms with Coventry aged 14.
Towards the end of the 1997/98 season Pat had a trial with Ipswich and played twice for their youth team before moving on to Millwall in the summer of 1998.
He played for the Lions youth team during 1998/99 and in the summer of 1999 Pat rejoined Margate.
He became the reserve team's regular keeper and on 27.12.99 he was called up for first team duty aged just 17 as Margate travelled to Salisbury for a Southern League Premier Division match. Regular number one Lee Turner had 'flu so manager Chris Kinnear picked Pat to replace him on the advice of reserve team boss Steve Winch. Although Salisbury won 2-0 the Isle of Thanet Gazette said "had it not been for a promising debut by young goalkeeper Pat Mullins (sic) the deficit could have been worse" and the paper added that he "looked comfortable". Kinnear told the Gazette "He made some good saves and showed he was a worthy part of the team. It was just a pity he had to be on the losing side. Maybe he didn't deserve to be but it was just one of those days where it didn't quite go right". Pat's appearance turned out to be a one-off with Turner in commanding form and he returned to the reserves for the remainder of the 1999/00 campaign.
Pat left Margate in the summer of 2000 and played in local football before joining Ramsgate ahead of the 2001/02 season.
In February 2002 he signed for the Rams' Kent League rivals Herne Bay and on 2.2.02 Pat made his first appearance for his new club in a game against Ramsgate at Southwood. Herne Bay lost 3-2 and the Thanet Extra said he had a "torrid debut".
Pat stayed with Herne Bay until the end of the 2002/03 campaign and then spent 2003/04 in Thanet local football, usually featuring as an outfield player.
In the summer of 2004 Pat had a trial with Dover and after playing for them in a match in Calais on 24.7.04 he turned out for Margate in a friendly at Ramsgate the following day. He was offered a deal by Margate but opted to join Dover instead and Pat started the 2004/05 season as their first-choice keeper.
In November 2004 he was loaned to Sittingbourne and after a month there Pat returned to Crabble. He spent most of the remainder of 2004/05 in Dover's reserves and then signed for Maidstone in April 2005.
Pat went on to spend three years with the Stones and was part of their side that won the Isthmian League Division 1 title during 2006/07. He also played as an outfield player in the Thanet Sunday Football League that season. In all Pat made 137 appearances for Maidstone before being released in May 2008.
In the summer of 2008 he rejoined Margate and Pat featured in several friendlies before making his first competitive appearance since December 1999 in a 2-1 defeat at Carshalton in the Isthmian League Premier Division on 16.8.08. It was the opening day of the 2008/09 campaign and Pat also started Margate's next match - a 2-2 draw with Hendon at Hartsdown Park on 19.8.08. The Thanet Times said he made "a stunning save to tip over a flying James Bent volley" but a few days later Pat broke his foot during a training session and Scott Chalmers-Stevens replaced him in the side.
After missing 16 games Pat returned to action in a 2-1 win at Boreham Wood on 11.11.08 and from then on he was ever-present until the end of the season. At the end of November 2008 Margate's assistant manager Neville Southall, the legendary former Wales international goalkeeper, spoke to the Isle of Thanet Gazette about Pat and Chalmers-Stevens and said "There's not a lot between them but Pat looks steadier at the moment and you have to go for the one who will make the least mistakes."
In its report on a 2-1 win at Hendon on 22.11.08 the Thanet Times praised Pat for "an outstanding late save" that secured the victory but then said he "handed Swans the opener" as Margate lost 2-1 at home to Staines on 29.11.08. Pat miscued a clearance that went straight to an opposing player who scored but four minutes later he redeemed himself by saving a penalty.
After a 2-0 win over visitors Tooting & Mitcham on 7.2.09 Margate's manager Terry Yorath told the Thanet Times "We could have been two or three goals down quite easily, Pat pulled off some great saves." and the paper said he "made a string of second-half saves" in a 1-1 draw at Hastings on 14.2.09. The report was headlined "Pat On The Back As Mullin Saves Gate".
On 4.4.09 Pat had what the Thanet Times described as a "poor day" in a 3-2 defeat at Harrow and the paper said he was at fault for all three of the goals. The report also mentioned that Pat later made "two full-length saves" but said by then "the damage was done". Margate finished the 2008/09 campaign in the Isthmian League Premier Division's relegation zone and Pat made a total of 30 appearances, keeping six clean sheets.
Despite not being named on Margate's retained list he was offered a new deal in May 2009 and Terry Yorath told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "Pat has been offered a new contract and it's up to him whether he takes it."
Early in July 2009 Terry Yorath told the Thanet Times "Pat's been working hard pre-season but last week he wasn't so good. He thought he had that swine flu that's been going around but it turned out to be food poisoning." Pat barely featured in Margate's friendlies and on the eve of the new season Terry Yorath told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "He's our No 1 keeper at the moment. We are going to bring in another keeper to challenge Pat and that will happen sooner or later."
He made his first competitive appearance of the 2009/10 campaign on 28.7.09 as Margate beat visitors Ramsgate 1-0 in the first leg of a tie played for the Isle of Thanet Gazette Cup and Pat also featured in the second leg at Southwood on 1.8.09 - a 1-1 draw.
After sitting out the first Isthmian League Premier Division game of the new season Pat lined up as Margate lost 4-0 to Dartford at Hartsdown Park on 18.8.09 and he also played in a 2-1 home win over Boreham Wood that followed it on 22.8.09 but it turned out to be his last appearance. He left Margate shortly afterwards.
In October 2009 Pat signed for Ramsgate but he only played twice before a leg muscle injury and work commitments cut his spell at Southwood short. He then dropped into local Sunday football.
In the summer of 2010 Pat was an unused substitute for one of Margate's pre-season friendlies but he wasn't resigned by the club and spent 2010/11 and 2011/12 in the Thanet Sunday Football League once more.
In August 2012 he became former Margate player Aaron Perry's assistant manager at Kent County League Division 1 club Milton & Fulston.
