5' 10" tall defender born in Lewisham who started his career as a trainee at Gillingham, joining the club in October 1989. Michael progressed to the first team during the 1990/91 campaign and made his debut in a home game against Torquay on 11.1.91. He played twice more before the end of the season (once as a sub) and was offered a professional contract by the Gills which he turned down. Michael decided to join Sittingbourne instead and signed for them in the summer of 1991.
He was a fixture in the Brickies side during 1991/92 and on 3.9.91 he scored from the penalty spot as they drew 1-1 with Margate at Central Park.
In November 1992 Sittingbourne loaned Michael to Margate and he made his debut at left-back in a 1-0 win over Andover at Hartsdown Park on 14.11.92. He wore the number three shirt for Margate's next four games too and the Thanet Times said he had a "storming" match in a 2-2 home draw with Dunstable on 28.11.92. Michael made the fifth and final appearance of his loan spell in a 3-2 win at Sudbury on 5.12.92 and then returned to Sittingbourne. Margate had won four and drawn one of the five matches he'd been involved in and tried unsuccessfully to extend his stay at Hartsdown.
Michael stayed at Sittingbourne until November 1993 when Millwall paid £200,000 for him and Neil Emblem. He went on to spend over three years with the Lions but struggled to gain a regular first team place. In December 1994 Michael returned to Sittingbourne on loan and stayed with the Brickies until the end of the 1994/95 season. Millwall then loaned him to Bury during 1995/96. At the end of the 1996/97 campaign Michael was released by the Lions having scored once in 25 first team appearances (ten as sub).
He joined Barnet in July 1997 and made 63 first team appearances (two as sub), scoring twice during the 1997/98 and 1998/99 seasons before signing for Welling on a free transfer in April 1999.
Michael signed a two-year contract with the Wings but was released in the summer of 2000 and retired aged only 27.
