Liam made his first appearances in Hastings' senior side during 1985/86 having progressed through their youth and reserve teams. He spent three seasons with Hastings and scored in a 5-2 win over Thanet United on 17.11.87. Liam had trials at Newcastle and Peterborough before moving on to Dunstable in September 1988.
After two full seasons with the Bedfordshire club Liam had a spell with Windsor & Eton before rejoining Dunstable.
In the summer of 1990 he signed for Dover and in February 1991 they loaned him to Margate.
Liam made his debut at left-back in a 2-2 draw at Salisbury on 23.2.91 and then marked his home debut with a goal in a 4-2 win over Erith & Belvedere three days later. Again he was wearing the number three shirt. Liam then played regularly for the remainder of the 1990/91 campaign, turning out in midfield or at full-back where he often impressed with his willingness to make overlapping runs. He made a total of 14 appearances (two as sub) before going back to Dover at the end of the season.
Liam left Dover in October 1991 and signed for VV Veendam in Holland for £3,000 before linking up with Kingstonian in October 1992. However after only five games there he moved on to Grays.
In early 1993 Liam rejoined Hastings and after a few months there he linked up with Wealdstone in the summer of 1993.
He made 23 appearances for the Stones during the early part of 1993/94 and worked as the club's Promotions Manager before going back to Hastings for a lengthy spell that lasted until the end of the 1997/98 season.
In the summer of 1998 Liam left Hastings to join their very near neighbours St.Leonards as player-coach before moving on to Langney Sports early in the 1999/00 season. He made 110 appearances for the club before rejoining St.Leonards in November 2001. By that time Langney had changed their name to Eastbourne Borough.
In March 2002 St.Leonards loaned Liam to Lewes but he was sent off on his debut there and returned to St.Leonards without playing again.
Liam's next move took him to Rye & Iden United where he snapped his achilles tendon during 2002/03. After a lengthy spell out of the game Liam linked up with Littlehampton for the start of the 2003/04 campaign and then joined Sidley towards the end of that season.
In the summer of 2004 he signed for Eastbourne Town before returning to Sidley as player-assistant manager in March 2005. In May 2005 Liam became Sidley's manager but he resigned in January 2006.
In 2009 Liam was living in East Preston, West Sussex and running his own plastering business.
