Commanding 6' 1" tall keeper born in Dover who started his career with his hometown club as a junior during the 1982/83 season. Kevin was picked for the Kent Youth team during 1983/84 and by then Dover were known as Dover Athletic. He progressed through the ranks and became Dover's first-choice soon after regular keeper Joe Radford left to join Thanet United in the summer of 1984. Kevin made his first team debut aged 17 on 15.9.84 in a 1-0 win over Three Bridges in an FA Cup tie at Crabble and from then on he was a fixture in the side. On 9.12.86 he turned in a great display as Dover drew 1-1 in a Southern League Cup tie against Thanet at Hartsdown Park and the Thanet Times praised his "heroic work".
In September 1987 Kevin signed for Canterbury and he went on to make 121 Southern League appearances for City before moving to Folkestone for the start of the 1990/91 campaign.
In January 1991 Folkestone folded and Kevin joined Margate, making his debut on 16.2.91 in a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Dunstable at Hartsdown. He replaced the injured Joe Radford having previously inherited Radford's role at Dover. Kevin was virtually ever-present for the remainder of 1990/91, missing only three games when Radford took over once again. On 6.3.91 Kevin made what the Isle of Thanet Gazette called "two spectacular saves" in a 3-0 win at his old club Canterbury and on 1.4.91 he saved a penalty to help secure a 1-0 win at Hastings. By the end of 1990/91 Kevin had made 15 first team appearances and also played five games for the reserves.
Kevin found himself out of favour at the start of the 1991/92 campaign as Radford enjoyed a run in the side and at the end of August 1991 he was loaned to his first club Dover. Soon after his return to Margate Kevin made his first appearance of the season in an FA Trophy tie against Abingdon at Hartsdown on 21.9.91. The match finished 1-1 and Kevin marked his comeback by being sent off for handling outside the penalty area. Manager Tommy Taylor told the Thanet Extra "it was a bit harsh, but they are the rules now". The Isle of Thanet Gazette said that Kevin "heartened his defence with his safe handling and confidence in taking the testing cross-ball" as Margate won the replay 1-0 at Abingdon on 24.9.91. After serving a one match ban Kevin was a fixture in the side for the majority of 1991/92 and the Gazette praised him for making "smart saves" in a 2-0 defeat at Erith & Belvedere on 5.11.91. The Thanet Times said that Kevin was "outstanding" in a 2-0 win at Buckingham on 16.11.91 and gave a display of "faultless goalkeeping" as Margate drew 0-0 at Conference club Slough in the FA Trophy on 30.11.91. The report said that he made "several saves of outstanding quality" during the tie.
Kevin had a great game in a 3-0 defeat at Weymouth on 14.12.91 and then saved a penalty as Margate lost 1-0 at Burnham on 21.12.91. The Times said the stop was part of a "five-star performance" by Kevin. On 1.1.92 Margate won 1-0 at Hythe and the Gazette reported that Kevin made "a tremendous reflex save" to deny Dave Arter an equaliser in the closing minutes. The Thanet Times praised him for making "several brave saves" in a 0-0 draw at Witney on 11.1.92 and said that Kevin "displayed his customary safe pair of hands" as Margate beat Bury 1-0 at Hartsdown on 21.3.92. On 28.3.92 he was injured during a 1-0 win at Newport IOW and although he played on Kevin missed Margate's next three matches as a result. As Joe Radford had just joined Hythe teenager Adrian Clewlow took over in goal and became first-choice for the remainder of the season. Kevin only played in one of Margate's last eight games, making his final appearance in a 4-0 defeat at Sudbury on 14.4.92. He ended 1991/92 with a record of 12 clean sheets from 36 appearances.
Kevin was almost ever-present during the 1992/93 campaign, missing only one match - a 5-3 home defeat against Salisbury on 2.2.93. Although the Isle of Thanet Gazette said that a "rare mistake" from Kevin gifted Chertsey an equaliser as they won 4-1 in an FA Cup tie at Hartsdown on 26.9.92 he was generally in superb form throughout the season. The Thanet Times praised Kevin's "excellent goalkeeping (that) kept the score down" during a 2-1 defeat at Newport IOW on 31.10.92 and reported that he "never made the semblance of a mistake" in a 3-1 home win over Fareham on 13.2.93. Despite Margate losing 2-0 at Salisbury on 27.2.93 the Gazette wrote that Kevin gave "an outstanding performance from start to finish" and added that he was "surely as consistent as anyone in the league". On 27.3.93 Kevin made probably his best save of the season during a 2-0 home defeat against Baldock, pushing over a powerful close range volley from future England striker Kevin Phillips in the last minute of the match. Kevin finished the 1992/93 campaign having kept 19 clean sheets in his 52 appearances, a tally which took his career total past 100 for Margate.
Kevin made a good start to the 1993/94 season when he brilliantly saved former Margate player Steve Crane's penalty in a 0-0 draw against Gillingham in a friendly at Hartsdown on 18.8.93. He began the campaign proper as Margate's undisputed first-choice keeper but on 18.9.93 Kevin was sent off three minutes from the end of a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Worthing in the 1st Qualifying Round of the FA Trophy. He pulled a striker down in the penalty area and the Thanet Times said the foul "couldn't have been any more obvious if he had tried to stop the player by whacking him round the head with one of the nearby advertising hoardings". Coincidentally Kevin had been dismissed at exactly the same stage of the FA Trophy two years earlier. In his next match - a 3-0 win at Bromley in the FA Cup on 25.9.93 - Kevin "twice rescued Margate with exceptional saves" according to the Times and the Isle of Thanet Gazette said he made "two exceptional saves" in the second half of a 1-0 win at Fisher on 9.11.93.
During February 1994 Kevin was surprisingly dropped and after playing in a 1-1 draw at Dunstable on 5.2.94 he only featured once in the next nine matches as Sittingbourne loanee Steve Williams became first-choice. At the start of April 1994 Kevin regained his place and played in seven of Margate's last nine games. On 2.5.94 he was part of the side that beat his old club Dover 2-1 at Gillingham's Priestfield Stadium to win the Kent Senior Cup and on 4.5.94 Kevin saved a penalty in a 1-0 home defeat against Newport IOW. He made 43 appearances during the campaign, keeping 14 clean sheets, and in its end of season report the Isle of Thanet Gazette questioned the decision to drop Kevin, saying he was "undoubtedly the right man for the job".
In the summer of 1994 Margate signed former Charlton keeper Bob Bolder and as he looked certain to become the club's first-choice custodian for the 1994/95 campaign Kevin's days at Hartsdown Park seemed numbered. On 26.7.94 he played for Whitstable in a friendly against a Margate side featuring Bolder at Belmont Road and the Isle of Thanet Gazette reported that Kevin had an "exceptional game" in a 2-0 defeat. He seemed certain to move elsewhere for the new season but when Bolder picked up an injury Kevin found himself back in the Margate side for the opening game of 1994/95 - a 3-1 win over Bashley at Hartsdown on 20.8.94. The Gazette said he "turned in his customary competent performance". With Bolder still sidelined Kevin continued in goal and the Gazette said he was "gallant" during a 1-0 defeat at Braintree on 29.8.94. The paper reported "he was one player who could hold his head high on the final whistle having pulled off several fine saves". The Thanet Times said Kevin "stopped a number of dead certs" in a 4-1 win at Tonbridge on 7.9.94 and shortly afterwards Bolder left Margate without making a competitive appearance, leaving Kevin as the club's undisputed first-choice keeper once again. On 27.9.94 he saved a penalty in a 5-3 win at Peacehaven & Telscombe in the FA Cup and Kevin was ever-present until serving a three match ban in April 1995 as a result of being sent off in a 2-0 defeat at Havant on 22.3.95. He returned to the side for the last four matches of the season and ended the campaign having kept 11 clean sheets in 52 appearances.
Kevin's form was as good as ever during the 1995/96 season and the Thanet Times said he "repeatedly foiled" Forest Green's attackers in a 3-1 home win on 30.9.95. The Isle of Thanet Gazette reported that he prevented Bashley from "cruising to a big victory" as Margate lost 2-1 to their Hampshire visitors in an FA Trophy tie on 17.10.95 and the Times said Kevin produced a "stunning display between the sticks" in a 3-1 win over Fleet at Hartsdown on 9.12.95. By the end of 1995 he'd passed 200 appearances for Margate and the Gazette said Kevin "made a series of smart saves to deny the eager home raiders" in a 2-1 win at Tonbridge on 1.1.96. He finished the season as an ever-present having kept ten clean sheets in 51 appearances.
Kevin played in all of Margate's friendlies ahead of the 1996/97 campaign and in July 1996 he brilliantly saved a Julian Dicks penalty in a friendly against West Ham at Hartsdown Park. The Isle of Thanet Gazette wrote "the delighted goalkeeper punched the air as the crowd roared their approval" and added "perhaps Dicks was put off by Hudson's fluorescent green jersey !". New Margate manager Chris Kinnear told the Thanet Extra that Kevin had "had a great start to the season and has the confidence now to continue this performance."
Kevin started Margate's first nine games of 1996/97 but then lost his place to loanee Charlie Mitten for a match at Newport IOW on 28.9.96. Mitten then played in eleven of Margate's next 13 games with Kevin only stepping in for two cup-ties as Mitten's parent club Dover didn't want him cup-tied for the FA Trophy or Kent Senior Cup.
On 7.12.96 Kevin started a league match for the first time since 24.9.96 as Mitten was temporarily recalled by Dover. The Thanet Times said he "displayed a safe pair of hands" as Margate lost 2-1 at Havant but it turned out to be Kevin's final appearance. At the end of December Mitten was injured but after Lee Turner was signed to replace him Kevin left the club in January 1997. He'd been transfer-listed by Margate and joined Ramsgate in time to make his debut in a 2-1 win at Folkestone Invicta on 18.1.97. Kevin had played 12 times for Margate before his departure.
He stayed with Ramsgate until the end of the 1996/97 campaign and in the summer of 1997 he linked up with Folkestone Invicta.
Kevin spent two seasons with Invicta before joining Whitstable for the start of the 1999/00 campaign.
Towards the end of 1999 Kevin rejoined Dover and he stayed at Crabble for the start of the 2000/01 season too. On 9.8.00 he was a substitute for Dover in a friendly at Folkestone Invicta and when Invicta keeper Dave Wietecha went off injured after 13 minutes Kevin went in goal for them as they had no keeper amongst their subs. In March 2001 Dover loaned Kevin to Folkestone and in the summer of 2001 he rejoined Invicta on a permanent basis. He'd made over 150 appearances for Dover in his two spells with the club.
Kevin took his total career appearances for Folkestone to 94 before moving to Maidstone during the 2001/02 campaign.
He went on to make over 100 appearances for Maidstone, becoming the first player to reach the landmark for the Stones since they returned to the Kent League, before leaving the club at the start of November 2004 having lost his place to Steve Williams who'd ironically briefly taken his place at Margate over ten years earlier.
At the start of December 2004 Kevin signed for Dartford and their manager Tommy Sampson told www.kentishfootball.co.uk "he was a free agent...I am delighted to sign Kevin, someone with his experience is invaluable to us and I am looking forward to him filling the goalkeeper shirt for the rest of the season." Kevin made his debut for the Darts in a 2-2 draw with Boreham Wood on 4.12.04 and went on to spend just over two years with the club. In November 2005 Dover put in a seven day approach for him but Kevin decided to stay with Dartford and his excellent display in a 1-0 win at Margate in the FA Trophy on 12.11.05 prompted the Thanet Times to say "he's got years left". He was chosen as 'Players' Player of the Year' for the 2005/06 season and the Darts' manager Tony Burman told www.kentishfootball.co.uk "Kevin has made some outstanding saves this year and kept us in games. He's not missed a game all season, he's a young 39 year-old and has just been excellent."
In November 2006 Kevin played in Dartford's first game at their new Princes Park stadium - a 4-2 win over Horsham YMCA watched by a crowd of 4,097 - and he'd made over 100 appearances for the Darts when he retired due to work commitments in January 2007 just after his 40th birthday. Tony Burman told www.kentishfootball.co.uk "We knew something like this could happen but unfortunately his work commitments have taken priority. He's a prison officer, in Sheppey I think, and he has to do night shifts over a three week spell. Unfortunately it means he has to miss training and that is not what he or I wanted. It is sad but when you're Kevin's age you have to keep fitness and sharpness and I just want Kevin remembered as being an excellent servant to Dartford Football Club."
He was also a talented cricketer and played for both Kent Schools and Kent Under-19's in the 1980's.
