Tall, well-built player born in Oxford who started his career with Headington United, making one Southern League appearance for them during the 1958/59 season.
Keith later played for a club in Ontario, Canada before returning to England towards the end of 1961. He joined Bedford, initially on trial, and ended up staying with the club for the remainder of the 1961/62 campaign. Keith made a total of ten appearances without scoring.
After leaving Bedford he had a spell on West Bromwich Albion's books before linking up with Crystal Palace in November 1962. Keith scored once in four reserve team appearances for the Eagles during the 1962/63 campaign before going back to Canada.
After returning to England once more Keith had a spell with Portsmouth and then moved on to Gillingham in November 1963. He joined Margate on a month's trial from the Gills in November 1965.
Keith made his debut on 13.11.65 as Margate beat Nuneaton 3-1 at Hartsdown and impressed with his accurate passing and hard work. He went on to make a total of seven appearances before returning to Gillingham in December 1965 when his trial finished. Margate had been keen to sign Keith but said that his wage demands were "totally unrealistic". He was released by the Gills at the end of the 1965/66 campaign.
Keith joined Dartford for 1966/67 and during the season he was rushed to hospital for an appendicitis operation shortly after a game. He was still with the Darts during the 1967/68 campaign and he'd made a total of 32 appearances for the club, scoring ten goals, before moving on at the end of the season.
After his football career finished Keith became a PE teacher in the Oxford area and later ran a hotel and restaurant for more than 30 years until he died in Oxfordshire on 19.12.03 aged 63.
Although he was always known as Keith his real first name was William.
