5' 7" tall fast, two-footed left winger nicknamed 'Dusty' who was born in Leyton, London and began his career with Tufnell Park before joining Dulwich Hamlet.

Johnny played for Dulwich in an FA Cup tie at Margate on 14.11.36 and helped Hamlet win the Surrey Senior Cup during that 1936/37 campaign. The club also won the FA Amateur Cup at Wembley but Johnny didn't play in the final.

The following season was a remarkable one for Johnny as he was part of the Islington Corinthians amateur team that embarked on an ambitious and ground-breaking world tour. The side played a remarkable 95 games in eight months from October 1937 to May 1938 and won 68 of them, losing just eight. The tour took the Corinthians and Johnny to Holland, Switzerland, Egypt, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Vietnam, occupied China, Japan, Hawaii, the United States and Canada. In 2008 the story of the 40,000 mile trip was documented in a book fittingly called 'Around The World In 95 Games' which included tales of the team being taken on an opium den raid by the Hong Kong Police, being arrested in Shanghai, visiting film sets in Hollywood and meeting famous stars of the silver screen including David Niven and Pat O'Brien.

After returning to the UK following his epic trip Johnny signed for Fulham and made four first team appearances for the Cottagers during the 1938/39 campaign before World War II began.

Johnny remained on the Cottagers' books throughout the conflict and guested for various clubs whilst serving in the forces. Towards the end of the war he featured regularly for St.Albans and during the early part of the 1945/46 season Johnny turned out for Ayr United whilst he was stationed in Scotland.

Later in 1945/46 he returned to St.Albans and Johnny made a career total of 55 appearances there and scored seven goals. He finished the campaign back at Fulham but left the club at the end of the season.

In November 1947 Johnny joined Margate and made an instant impression by scoring on his debut - a 4-0 win away to Lloyds in the Kent League on 22.11.47. His goal was a corner kick that went straight in. Johnny went on to make a total of 18 appearances during the 1947/48 season and scored 11 times but missed the last part of the campaign after pulling a leg muscle.

During the 1948/49 season Johnny made a further 25 appearances and scored eight goals, several from the penalty spot. His elusiveness was praised in the local press.

In the summer of 1949 Johnny announced that he was planning to wind down his career and would only play when absolutely necessary but he ended up featuring regularly again during the 1949/50 season. He played 30 times and scored nine goals, fitting in his appearances around his work in the newsreel business. However the campaign did prove to be Johnny's last as a first team regular and although he stayed with the club for the 1950/51 season he only played twice for the first team.

He then retired from the game at the age of 38.

Johnny died in Hillingdon during March 1990 aged 77.
