Talented left-sided player christened Harry but universally known as 'Chick' who began his career with Yiewsley before moving on to Wisbech.
Chick joined Bexleyheath & Welling during the 1962/63 season and went on to make over 100 appearances for them and Bexley United (after the club changed its name) scoring 20 goals. His tally included a hat-trick in a 7-1 home win over Ramsgate in the Southern League Cup on 11.9.63.
In December 1964 Chick signed for Margate and he was described as being "one of the best wingers in non-league football" by former Margate captain Davie Laing in his Thanet Times column.
Chick made his debut in a 4-3 defeat at the hands of King's Lynn at Hartsdown Park on 19.12.64. He went on to make a total of 23 appearances before the end of the 1964/65 season, scoring three times. Chick impressed with his accurate crossing and on 13.3.65 the local press said that he "cut the defence to ribbons" although Margate went down 2-0 in a game away to his old club Bexley. He actually continued to train at Bexley for the first few months he was with Margate but in March 1965 his old club put a stop to that.
During the 1965/66 season Chick was a regular in the Margate side and made a total of 49 appearances. He also scored an impressive 20 goals, many of them memorable. On 8.11.65 he beat three players before lobbing in from a difficult angle as Margate beat Ramsgate 2-0 at Hartsdown Park and on 27.11.65 he scored with a diving header in a 2-1 home win over Corby. Chick also found the net with a scorching 20 yard effort in a 2-2 draw with Chelmsford at Hartsdown Park on 1.1.66 and scored another solo goal in an amazing 7-6 home win over King's Lynn on 7.2.66 - he beat two players before lobbing in from 20 yards. On 6.12.65 Chick remarkably scored four goals in a 6-1 Kent Senior Shield win over Erith & Belvedere at Hartsdown Park but despite his goal tally and consistent displays on the left wing Chick was released at the end of the season, shortly after Margate's relegation from the Southern League Premier Division was confirmed.
He joined Brentwood for the start of the 1966/67 campaign and at the end of that season Chick had a short spell at Bedford, making five appearances without scoring there before leaving the club.
