6' 2" tall striker born in Hackney who started his career in Wimbledon's junior ranks before being released by the Dons at the end of the 2001/02 season.
Ellis joined Southern League Premier Division club Hastings United in the summer of 2002 aged 18 and scored five goals during the 2002/03 campaign.
In the summer of 2003 he played in some friendlies for Division 3 side Lincoln City and at the start of August 2003 Ellis was given a three-month contract by the Imps. He made his first team debut as a substitute in a 1-0 home defeat against Oxford United on 9.8.03 and Ellis also featured as a sub in a 1-0 defeat against Stockport in a League Cup tie at Sincil Bank on 12.8.03.
In September 2003 he was loaned to Kettering and played twice in the Isthmian League Premier Division for them, scoring in a 1-1 draw at Grays on 23.9.03.
After briefly returning to Lincoln Ellis was sold to Grays for a fee of £5,000 in October 2003 and the Imps manager Keith Alexander told Lincoln's official website "Ellis has signed for Grays and we'll be keeping an eye on his progress between now and the end of the season."
Ellis went on to score three goals for Grays during the remainder of the 2003/04 campaign but he was generally used as a substitute and left the club at the end of the season.
He started the 2004/05 campaign with Conference South outfit Redbridge and towards the end of 2004 Ellis signed for Braintree.
He scored nine goals from 25 Isthmian League Premier Division outings (11 as sub) for the Iron before the end of the 2004/05 before moving on again at the end of the season.
In August 2005 Ellis linked up with East Thurrock, also of the Premier Division, and the Rocks were asked to pay compensation to Braintree. East Thurrock's co-manager Lee Patterson told the club's website "The way Braintree have gone about this silly as they told Ellis he wasn't wanted yet want him to pay for his own release. I spoke to their Chairman and tried to come to a compromise, but got nowhere. The unfortunate one in all this is Ellis as being only 21 it meant he could not play anywhere until a club agree to settle with Braintree. The figure quoted to me was embarrassing so the FA can sort it now. Whatever happens now Ellis will at least have got away from there and can play again." He ended up only making three appearances (one as sub) without scoring for East Thurrock and in September 2005 Ellis signed for Margate. Manager Chris Kinnear said "He's still only 21, so he's got a little way to go, but we hope he's got goals in him."
Ellis made his debut in an Isthmian League Premier Division game against Fisher at Hartsdown Park on 6.9.05 and scored Margate's goal in a 1-1 draw. The Isle of Thanet Gazette said he "did really well" to lift the ball over the onrushing Fisher keeper and Ellis then started each of the next seven matches. He was on target again in a 4-0 home win over Cowes in the FA Cup on 10.9.05 and Ellis then made it back-to-back goals with a strike in a 2-2 draw with Slough at Hartsdown Park on 17.9.05.
He got his fourth goal for Margate to secure a 1-0 win over visitors Carshalton on 24.9.05 but after playing in a 3-0 home defeat against Cray in the FA Cup on 8.10.05 Ellis fell out of favour. He only featured as a substitute in the next three games but scored after coming on in a 2-1 defeat against Fisher at Dulwich on 24.10.05. Ellis then started Margate's next match - a 1-0 defeat against Braintree at Hartsdown Park on 29.10.05 - and kept his place for the three games that followed that before dropping back to the subs bench after a 1-0 home defeat against Dartford in the FA Trophy on 12.11.05.
Ellis made four substitute appearances in Margate's next six matches but after coming on in a 1-0 home defeat against Leyton on 10.12.05 he was released. Ellis had scored five goals from 19 outings (seven as sub) and Chris Kinnear told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "Unfortunately, things didn't click for Ellis, so it's probably best he finds another club."
Immediately after leaving Margate Ellis trained with Dagenham & Redbridge and in January 2006 he joined Isthmian League Premier Division club Bromley. Ellis made his debut in a 2-1 home defeat against Fisher on 17.1.06 and Bromley's joint manager Billy Smith told the Kentish Football website "I thought the boy Ellis done okay tonight, without looking as though he was going to score but he held the ball up well." Ellis scored four goals from ten appearances (one as sub) before moving on again in March 2006.
He looked set to rejoin East Thurrock after they made a seven-day approach to Bromley but at the last minute Staines stepped in and Ellis signed for them. He made seven Isthmian League Premier Division appearances (three as sub) for Staines without scoring before the end of the 2005/06 season.
On 12.8.06 Ellis played for Margate in a friendly at Dover but he was replaced at half-time and ended up linking up with Harrow for the start of the 2006/07 campaign proper. He made one sub appearance for them in a 1-0 win at Folkestone in the Isthmian League Premier Division on 19.8.06 and then joined Folkestone before the end of August 2006.
Ellis moved to Invicta as a non-contract player and Folkestone's manager Neil Cugley said "If he puts in positive performances when he gets the chance and scores some goals then he will create competition and I will make funds available to sign him". Ellis scored seven goals in 13 games for Folkestone, including a hat-trick in a 4-3 home win over Walton & Hersham on 7.10.06, but at the start of November 2006 he was released along with former Margate player Samuel Okikiolu as Folkestone couldn't afford to keep him.
Ellis and Okikiolu both joined East Thurrock and Ellis marked the first appearance of his second spell with the Rocks with a goal in a 4-1 home win over his old club Staines on 18.11.06. He played three more games without scoring before going back to Folkestone early in December 2006, barely a month after leaving the club, and Okikiolu also rejoined Invicta.
By the end of the 2006/07 campaign Ellis had scored 13 goals in all competitions for Folkestone and in the summer of 2007 he trained with Montserrat's international squad with a view to playing in their forthcoming World Cup qualifying campaign but nothing came of that at the time.
Ellis eventually left Folkestone in December 2007 after scoring six goals from 25 outings (12 as sub) during the early part of the 2007/08 season and he then linked up with Conference South club Welling.
Ellis spent the rest of campaign with the Wings and then left the club at the end of the season.
After featuring in some of Braintree's friendlies ahead of the 2008/09 campaign Ellis joined Heybridge for the start of the new season and made four Isthmian League Premier Division appearances without scoring before moving on to Enfield Town of the Isthmian League Division 1 North at the end of August 2008.
Ellis was on target on his debut for Enfield as they lost 3-1 in an FA Cup tie at Hillingdon on 30.8.08 and he went to score 13 goals from 29 appearances in all competitions before the end of 2008/09.
In the summer of 2009 Ellis linked up with Conference South club Bishop's Stortford and in September 2009 they loaned him to Potters Bar of the Isthmian League Division 1 North.
Ellis scored 13 goals from 22 outings for Potters Bar before returning to Bishop's Stortford in January 2010.
He signed for Isthmian League Division 1 North outfit Brentwood in the summer of 2010 and on 7.10.10 Ellis made his international debut for Montserrat in a Caribbean Cup Group B match against Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Montserrat lost 7-0 and Ellis was sent off in the 68th minute after picking up two yellow cards. He didn't make another appearance in the tournament.
Ellis had scored 11 goals for Brentwood when he moved on to Maldon & Tiptree in February 2011 and the Isthmian League Division 1 North club's squad included several former Margate players including Dean Standen and Jack Haverson. Ellis scored twice from 11 league outings (one as sub) before the end of the 2010/11 campaign.
In the summer of 2011 he signed for Aveley of the Isthmian League Premier Division and they became the 20th different club Ellis had played for.
In January 2012 he moved on to Southern League Premier Division outfit Hemel Hempstead and in February 2012 Ellis joined Conference South side Eastbourne Borough where he finished the 2011/12 season before leaving the club.
In September 2012 Ellis played in all three of Montserrat's Caribbean Cup Group 3 matches in Martinique and on 9.9.12 he scored twice in a 7-0 win over the British Virgin Islands after coming on as a substitute with 20 minutes to go.
At the start of October 2012 Ellis returned to Eastbourne Borough and came off the bench to score in his comeback match - a 2-1 home defeat against Tonbridge on 2.10.12.
