5' 10" tall, Islington-born centre-forward who started his career as an apprentice at Gillingham, joining the club in August 1969. Dennis scored ten goals for the Gills' reserves during the 1970/71 campaign, including four in a game against Southampton. Gillingham Reserves still lost the match. In August 1971 Dennis signed professional forms and made his first team debut against Newport at Priestfield on 23.10.71.

Dennis joined Margate on loan in November 1971 having just had a similar spell with Dartford and made his debut in a Southern League game against Folkestone at Hartsdown on 15.11.71. Margate lost 1-0 and according to the Isle of Thanet Gazette Dennis made "no impact". It turned out to be his only appearance as he was sent back to Gillingham.

Dennis went on to make a total of 17 first team appearances for the Gills during the 1971/72 and 1972/73 seasons.

He then joined Canterbury in July 1973 and scored 22 Southern League goals in 67 games (one as sub) during the 1973/74 and 1974/75 seasons.

Dennis moved to Dover for the 1975/76 campaign and he scored 17 goals before leaving the club towards the end of the season. He joined Folkestone and also spent 1976/77 there.

He rejoined Dover at the beginning of the 1977/78 season and scored twice but was released in November 1977.

Dennis then linked up with Faversham and went on to score 41 goals for them during the 1978/79 season.

He then moved to Kent League Chatham for the 1979/80 campaign and scored a remarkable 48 goals in 49 appearances during the season. He was still with the club during the 1982/83 campaign.

Dennis was last heard of during the 1985/86 season when he made a one-off appearance for Whitstable as a substitute.

Some sources list his first name as being spelt 'Denis'.
