Keeper born in Crayford, London who played for Sidcup County Boys' Club as a youth and was selected for the England Boys' Club side to play Wales at Cardiff. David declined the honour of playing in the match in favour of trying his luck with Charlton and he joined the Addicks in October 1963.

He played for Charlton's Colts side during the remainder of 1963/64 and suffered a compound fracture of his little finger in a game against Luton Town Colts at New Eltham on 23.4.64. David went on to make 34 appearances for the club's Metropolitan League side during the 1964/65 and 1965/66 campaigns.

During the 1965/66 season he also played once for Margate after joining the club on loan. The match concerned was a Southern League game at Folkestone on 15.9.65 and it finished 1-1.

David was released by Charlton in the summer of 1966 and joined Bexley for the 1966/67 campaign. He was ever-present during the season, making 59 appearances. He spent the 1967/68 campaign there too.

David joined Ashford in the summer of 1968 and stayed there until the summer of 1971 when he joined Folkestone. However by the end of 1971/72 David was back at Ashford. He made a total of 89 Southern League appearances for the Nuts & Bolts.
