Versatile locally-born defender who played for Thanet United's Under-14's side during 1982/83 and also turned out for Westgate Sports as a youngster before having a season at Chelsea where he played in the youth team.
David started his senior career with Ramsgate during the 1985/86 season and then joined Thanet United in the summer of 1987. He played in some of the first team's pre-season friendlies and then went on to become a regular in the reserves. David made 31 appearances for them during 1987/88 and was an unused substitute when Thanet's first team drew 0-0 with Ashford at Hartsdown Park in a Southern League Cup tie on 29.9.87.
David rejoined Ramsgate for the 1988/89 campaign before returning to Hartsdown for 1989/90. He was a fixture in Margate's reserve side as they won the Kent League Division 2 title, making 37 appearances and scoring twice. David also played a few games for the first team, making his debut at left-back in a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Witney on 30.12.89. The Isle of Thanet Gazette said that he did "especially well" and manager Trevor Ford also praised David's display. He kept his place for Margate's next game - a 1-1 draw at Folkestone on 1.1.90 - but then drifted out of the first team picture until April 1990 when he made two further appearances as a substitute. David left the club at the end of the season and went back to Ramsgate for his third spell with the club.
He spent the 1990/91 campaign with the Rams and then joined Kent County League club Phoenix Rovers for the start of 1991/92.
In March 1992 David rejoined Margate and made his first appearance as an early substitute for Bill Roffey in a 1-0 win over Bury at Hartsdown on 21.3.92. The Thanet Times said he "did quite well" at left-back and manager Lee Smelt told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "he is a promising player who can develop on the right lines with us". David then became a fixture in the number three shirt for the remainder of the season and the Times said that he turned in "an impressive performance" in a 1-0 win at Newport IOW on 28.3.92. The paper reported that David "again impressed with a determined display" in a 2-1 home defeat against Andover on 4.4.92.
On 5.5.92 he played as Margate lost 3-1 to Ramsgate in the annual Isle of Thanet Gazette Cup match at Hartsdown and it turned out to be David's last game for the club. After making ten appearances (one as sub) he left the club in the summer of 1992 having featured in some of Margate's pre-season friendlies and went back to Ramsgate yet again.
His fourth spell at Southwood turned out to be a lengthy one and David scored the Rams' winner in the Kent League Cup Final in April 1993. During the 1993/94 and 1994/95 campaigns he often played as a striker and in April 1994 David scored a hat-trick in a 5-1 home win over Slade Green. He stayed with the Rams until the end of the 1997/98 season when he dropped into local football.
David worked as a car transporter during his first spell with Margate and he was still living in Thanet in 2011.
