Left footed midfielder who started his career with Kent League club Alma Swanley during the 1982/83 campaign before moving on to Crockenhill towards the end of 1983/84.

In the summer of 1984 Dave linked up with Erith & Belvedere and scored twice in their 3-2 win at Thanet United on 16.3.85.

He returned to Alma Swanley for the 1985/86 season and won the clubs 'Player of the Year' award for 1986/87. Dave was Alma's captain and his second spell with the club lasted until the end of the 1988/89 campaign.

In the summer of 1989 he signed for Sittingbourne and Dave went on to spend five seasons with the Brickies. During 1992/93 he scored over 20 goals as the club won the Southern League Southern Division and on 4.8.93 a testimonial match was played in Dave's honour - Sittingbourne lost 3-2 to an Arsenal side at Central Park.

He moved on to Gravesend & Northfleet for the 1994/95 campaign and scored four goals in 37 games for the Fleet before joining Corinthian towards the end of 1995.

Dave's next move to took him back to Erith & Belvedere for a short spell and he took his total career appearances for the Deres to 28 (two as sub) before returning to Sittingbourne in January 1996.

In September 1996 Dave signed for Margate and made his debut in a 4-0 home defeat at the hands of Witney on 21.9.96. He played in midfield and the Thanet Times said he "must have wondered what he had got himself into".

Dave was initially a regular in the number eight shirt and had an eventful night when Margate played at Erith & Belvedere in a Southern League Cup tie on 8.10.96. His father John (a former Southern League goalkeeper) was on his way to the match when he was knocked down by a van on the road outside the ground and when Dave found out 15 minutes into the game he immediately left the field. At the time spectators had no idea why he'd suddenly been substituted.

Fortunately Dave's father's injuries weren't too severe and Dave was able to continue his run in the Margate side. On 29.10.96 he scored his first goal in a 2-0 win over Erith & Belvedere at Hartsdown Park and Dave was also on target in Margate's next game - a 3-2 home win over Cirencester. After a run of 12 consecutive starts Dave's appearances became more sporadic after he'd played in a 1-0 defeat against Bromley at Hartsdown Park on 5.11.96. Injuries and the arrival of midfielder Paul Gbogidi restricted his chances and Dave only started one of Margate's next 11 games although he did feature four times as a substitute. One of his appearances from the bench saw him take over in goal when Charlie Mitten was injured after 55 minutes of a game against St.Leonards Stamcroft at Hartsdown Park on 26.12.96. Dave pulled off some good saves to protect Margate's 1-0 lead before making a mess of a punch that resulted in St.Leonards equalizing. They eventually won 2-1.

On 1.2.97 Dave was back in the starting line-up for a home game against Clevedon but he was sent off as Margate lost 1-0. His dismissal led to a three match ban but after that had been served Dave played regularly again through to the end of the season. He started each of Margate's last 11 games and sometimes played in defence during a run which saw the side unbeaten. On 3.5.97 Dave made his 31st appearance (five as sub) in a 1-1 draw at Clevedon and it turned out to be his last game for Margate. He left the club in the summer of 1997.

Dave initially joined Dulwich Hamlet but after making six appearances there (two as sub) he linked up with Tonbridge at the end of September 1997.

He went on to make 43 appearances (three as sub) for the Angels and scored five goals, including a penalty in a 1-1 home draw with Margate on 26.12.97, before retiring as a player at the end of the 1998/99 campaign.

During the 1999/00 season Dave was Chatham's assistant manager.

In 2011 he was living in Broadstairs and working as a banker in London.

Dave's father John's career as a goalkeeper included a lengthy spell with Dartford during the 1960's and he was sent off for fighting with Margate striker Dennis Randall in the 1st Leg of the Kent Floodlight Cup Final at Dartford on 12.5.66. John was later awarded a benefit match for his services to the Darts and he also played for Tonbridge, Swanley and Erith & Belvedere.

Dave's son Ashley, a goalkeeper like his grandfather, played for Gillingham's Under-16's side during the 2009/10 season and was still on the Gills' books when he joined Ramsgate on loan in March 2012.
