Midfielder born in Glasgow, Scotland who moved to Thanet as a youngster and progressed through Ramsgate's youth ranks. Darren first appeared for the Rams' reserves as a 15 year-old during the 1987/88 season and also played for Kent at that time.
After leaving Dane Court Grammar School in Broadstairs Darren joined Millwall and spent two years playing for their youth sides before leaving the club at the end of the 1989/90 campaign.
In the summer of 1990 he was expected to sign for Wealdstone but when that move fell through Darren joined Margate. After making a few reserve team appearances he made his senior debut aged 18 on 8.9.90 as Margate lost 2-1 to Gosport at Hartsdown Park. Darren featured in Margate's next two games but then returned to the reserves for a spell. Towards the end of October 1990 he got another chance in the first team and from then on he was a fixture in the side, missing only a handful of games. On 2.2.91 Darren scored his first goal in a 2-2 draw at Burnham and then got another in a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Dunstable on 16.2.91. He ended the 1990/91 campaign with a record of two goals in 36 appearances (three as sub) and also made 13 reserve team appearances, scoring twice.
Darren featured in Margate's friendlies ahead of the 1991/92 season but in August 1991 he left the club and went to the USA to start a football scholarship in Charlotte, North Carolina. However by the end of September 1991 Darren was back in England and returned to Hartsdown Park. On 8.10.91 he scored in a 3-2 home win over Erith & Belvedere but it turned out to be his only first team appearance of the season and his last ever for Margate.
In November 1991 Darren rejoined Ramsgate before moving on to Canterbury almost immediately. He made two first team appearances for City before going back to Ramsgate again before the end of 1991. He was sent off in a 2-1 win at Cray in March 1992.
In the summer of 1992 Darren again went to the USA and played football for Richmond Spiders whilst studying in Virginia.
After undergoing three knee operations he returned to the UK and linked up with Ramsgate again for the 1996/97 season. He also played for the Rams during 1997/98.
Darren later completed a BA and MA in Fine Art and during the 2010/11 campaign he was playing for Minster in the Canterbury & District League.
