Locally-born left-sided player known as 'Dolly' who started his senior career with Ramsgate where he featured in the reserves during the 2002/03 season.
Danny then dropped into local amateur football and during the 2005/06 campaign he scored 36 goals for Thanet District Football League club Flying Horse as they won the 1st Division.
He joined Margate for the start of the 2006/07 season and after impressing in the reserves Danny made his first team debut wearing the number 11 shirt in an FA Trophy tie at Wivenhoe on 21.10.06. Margate won 3-1 and his through ball set up the opening goal for Danny Hockton just eight minutes into the game. The Thanet Times said Danny had "made an instant impression" and he also started the next two games on the left wing before dropping out of the first team picture for over a month after a 1-0 defeat at Gloucester in the FA Trophy on 4.11.06.
Later in November 2006 Danny signed a contract to the end of the season shortly after Ramsgate had made a seven-day approach for him and on 9.12.06 he returned to the senior side when he came on as a substitute in a 4-0 win at Horsham. Danny then made two more sub appearances in Margate's next three games before missing five matches altogether.
On 6.2.07 he was back in the number 11 shirt as Margate beat Carshalton 1-0 at Hartsdown Park in an Isthmian League Premier Division game and Danny kept his place for the return match at Carshalton on 17.2.07. However he was struggling for fitness and after only 41 minutes Danny was substituted. It turned out to be his last outing for Margate as at the start of March 2007 he was released having made eight appearances (three as sub) without scoring.
Later in March Danny was linked with a return to Ramsgate but the Rams' manager Jimmy Ward told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "I don't need to chase players who are just potential. I phoned the boy and he was keen, then the next thing I'm told he's working away. He hasn't phoned me so we'll just leave it."
In June 2007 Danny finally rejoined Ramsgate and scored four times in 34 Isthmian League Premier Division outings (17 as sub) during the 2007/08 campaign. He stayed at Southwood for the start of the 2008/09 season too but only made ten substitute appearances in the Premier Division before being loaned to Whitstable in October 2008.
Danny featured eight times (three as sub) for Whitstable in the Isthmian League Division 1 South without scoring but towards the end of 2008 he dropped out of football for several months and didn't play again during the remainder of the season.
In the summer of 2009 Danny resumed his career by joining Whitstable on a permanent basis and he went on to make 27 appearances (five as sub) in the Isthmian League Division 1 South and scored twice during the 2009/10 campaign.
He went back to Ramsgate for the start of the 2010/11 season but Danny then returned to Whitstable at the end of September 2010. He only made one appearance for the Oystermen before dropping out of senior football.
During the 2011/12 campaign Danny was playing locally for Bradstow Albion.
In the summer of 2013 he signed for Southern Counties East Football League outfit Canterbury and made his debut in a 2-0 defeat at Corinthian on 10.8.13.
