Newport Pagnell-born centre-forward who had spells with Hitchin Town and Leavesden Mental Hospital before being signed by Watford in November 1935. Cyril didn't make the first team there and in June 1937 he moved on to Gillingham.
Cyril scored four goals in 11 senior appearances for the Gills during the early part of the 1937/38 season.
In October 1937 Cyril left Gillingham after just four months there and joined Sheffield Wednesday where he made four first team appearances before the end of the campaign.
After leaving Hillsborough he dropped into non-league football, linking up with Chelmsford City for 1938/39 and then having a stint with Shorts Sports before World War II.
During the conflict Cyril served in the R.A.F. and featured in representative games for them. He also played in 34 wartime matches for Norwich, scoring a remarkable 37 goals.
After hostilities ceased Cyril officially signed for Norwich in August 1946 and marked his debut by scoring the winning goal with two minutes left as the Canaries beat Cardiff 2-1 in a Division Three South game. In the weeks that followed Cyril played twice more for the first team but after scoring in a 5-1 home defeat against Swindon he was dropped to the reserves despite a record of two goals from three outings. He never played in Norwich's senior side again and left Carrow Road in the summer of 1947.
Cyril then dropped out of the professional game once again and joined Snowdown Colliery Welfare.
In March 1951 he moved to Margate and scored on his debut - a 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Folkestone on 23.3.51. Cyril also found the net in his next game - a 3-3 draw at Whitstable on 26.3.51. He played twice more before the end of the season and took his goal tally to three in four appearances when he scored in a 2-1 defeat against his old club Snowdown at Hartsdown Park on 11.5.51.
Cyril stayed with Margate for the 1951/52 campaign but only made two first team appearances and he was eventually released by the club in November 1952 without featuring in the senior side during 1952/53.
Cyril then joined Dartford before linking up with Chatham for the 1953/54 season.
In later years he had a spell as Beckenham's manager.
Cyril died in the Medway area in July 2002 aged 88.
