Committed Dover-born defender who progressed through his hometown club's youth ranks and made his first senior appearance as a late substitute as Dover lost 1-0 at home to Doncaster in the Conference on 19.1.02. It was Craig's only first team outing of the 2001/02 campaign and he was just 17 at the time.
He went on to become a hugely popular player at Crabble over the course of the next eight seasons and during 2004/05 Craig won all four of Dover's 'Player of the Year' awards as the club were relegated from the Isthmian League Premier Division. He also scored from the penalty spot as Dover lost 2-1 to Margate in the Kent Senior Cup Final at Folkestone.
Craig later played a key role as Dover won Division 1 South during 2007/08 but he was badly hit by injuries during 2008/09 and was a peripheral figure as Dover won the Premier Division title. Craig's injury woes continued during 2009/10 - Dover's first in the Conference South - and he only started two matches during the season.
At the start of February 2010 Craig was loaned to Division 1 South club Ashford to try and build his match fitness and he made five appearances for the Nuts & Bolts before returning to Crabble.
By the end of the 2009/10 campaign Craig had made well over 200 appearances for Dover and manager Andy Hessenthaler said that he was hoping to offer him a new appearance-related contract but in May 2010 Craig decided to sign for Margate.
On 10.8.10 he scored as Margate beat a Gillingham X1 4-0 in a friendly at Hartsdown Park and on the eve of the 2010/11 season manager Iain O'Connell spoke about Craig to the Isle of Thanet Gazette and said "Great player. Another one with a long throw, he can head the ball miles and has two good feet. Always wants to know what's for dinner."
Craig made his debut at centre-back on 21.8.10 as Margate took on visitors Canvey Island in an Isthmian League Premier Division game and he scored in a 2-2 draw. Craig also started the next two matches but after a 1-1 draw with Maidstone at Hartsdown Park on 30.8.10 he missed five games due to a knee problem.
Craig returned to action as a substitute in a 1-1 home draw with Kingstonian in the FA Cup on 25.9.10 and after one more outing from the bench he made his first start for over a month on 5.10.10 as Margate lost 1-0 to Tonbridge at Hartsdown Park. He was a regular in the side again after that and on 9.11.10 Craig played as a striker in a 1-1 draw at Tonbridge. The experiment was repeated as Margate beat visitors Sutton 3-2 on 13.11.10 and the Thanet Times said Craig "had a whale of a time making a nuisance of himself as a makeshift centre-forward".
Following a 2-0 win over Maidstone at Ashford on 3.1.11 Craig missed three matches with a hamstring injury but after returning to the side for a 2-0 win over Hastings at Hartsdown Park on 22.1.11 he was a fixture in Margate's defence once more. On 25.1.11 Craig scored in a 1-1 draw with visitors Hendon - knocking home a loose ball after a James Rogers corner - and he was on target again in a 3-1 win at Carshalton on 8.2.11 when his low free-kick from just outside the penalty area took a deflection and went in.
On 19.3.11 Craig acted as Margate's joint caretaker manager along with James Pinnock and Wayne Wilson as Margate travelled to Wembley FC to take on Hendon and he headed home the opening goal of the game following a long throw-in from Aaron Lacy. Margate went on to win 3-2. By the end of the season Craig had scored four times in 37 appearances (three as sub) and in July 2011 he was given a new one-year contract.
Craig became Margate's captain ahead of the 2011/12 campaign and a few days before the start of the season manager Chris Kinnear spoke about him to the Isle of Thanet Gazette and said "A good all-round player and an aggressive defender. It knocked his career when he got injured at Dover but he's fully fit now and he'll be a very good captain for us. Sometimes tries too hard if that's possible".
Craig made his first appearance of the new Isthmian League Premier Division campaign in a 1-1 draw at Wealdstone on 20.8.11 and the Thanet Times said he "impressed at the back". He then scored as Margate beat Aveley 3-0 at Hartsdown Park on 23.8.11 and Craig's first-time strike from just inside the penalty area was described as being "some finish for a centre-half" by the Isle of Thanet Gazette. After a 4-1 home defeat against Lowestoft on 27.8.11 he missed three games due to injury but Craig then returned in a 3-1 win at Metropolitan Police on 14.9.11 and started each of Margate's next six matches.
He had another spell on the sidelines following a 1-0 defeat against visitors Carshalton on 8.10.11 and Craig had sat out six games due to injury before he came on as a substitute in a 1-1 draw with Wealdstone in an FA Trophy tie at Hartsdown Park on 5.11.11. After that he was a fixture in the number five shirt again for the next few months and on 29.11.11 Craig scored twice in a 5-0 home win over East Thurrock. The Isle of Thanet Gazette described his first goal as a "bullet header" and Craig's second came from a direct free-kick that he totally mis-hit to deceive the visiting keeper. The Gazette said he'd been "brilliant for his chat as much as anything".
On 31.12.11 Craig found the net again with a free-kick as Margate won 3-1 at Aveley and the Isle of Thanet Gazette said it was an "incredible strike from the halfway line". There was some debate about whether Craig's effort was intended as a shot but Margate's goalkeeping coach Simon Pridmore later said that Craig had told the Aveley bench he was going to score before he took the free-kick as he'd spotted the goalkeeper was off his line.
In its report on a 4-1 home win over Hastings on 2.1.12 the Isle of Thanet Gazette said Craig was "forming a smashing understanding" with fellow centre-back John Beales and on 28.1.12 Craig headed home from a Matt Bodkin corner to give Margate the lead in a match at Carshalton. The home side ended up winning 2-1. He got his sixth goal of the season with a penalty in a 3-2 defeat against Bury at Hartsdown Park on 25.2.12 but after a 2-2 draw at Wingate & Finchley on 3.3.12 Craig missed two games.
When he returned to the side in a 2-1 defeat at Lowestoft on 24.3.12 Craig played in an unfamiliar midfield role and he also wore the number eight shirt in a 3-0 defeat at AFC Hornchurch on 27.3.12. After that he only featured twice as a substitute in the last seven matches of the campaign and Craig's last outing from the bench came in a 5-0 defeat at Canvey Island on 28.4.12. In all he'd made 37 appearances (three as sub) and scored six times during the season.
In May 2012 Craig signed a one-year contract with Isthmian League Division 1 South club Hythe Town and their manager Scott Porter told the Kentish Football website "I'm delighted to have him on board and it's a great signing for the club. He's got a lot of experience, goals at one end and obviously his quality defending at the other end. He can play at a number of positions. He's a good lad in the changing room, he's a bubbly character and he's impressed with what he's seen and we're delighted to have him on board."
Craig went on to make 39 appearances (one as sub) for Hythe in all competitions during 2012/13 and scored twice as they reached the play-offs before losing to Faversham in the semi-final. He stayed with the club for the 2013/14 campaign too.
