Long-serving local player who played for various RAF teams during the Second World War before being offered trials with both Aldershot and Northampton during the 1946/47 campaign.
Charlie then played for several London amateur sides before joining Margate for the 1948/49 season. His brother George was already on Margate's books at the time.
Charlie went on to spend over ten years at Margate and played almost exclusively for the reserves, making only sporadic first team appearances. He made his senior debut on 20.11.48 when he played as an inside forward in a Kent League game against Chatham at Hartsdown Park which Margate won 4-2. Charlie went on to make a total of five first team appearances before the end of the 1948/49 season and scored twice. His first goal came in a 5-3 home win over Canterbury in the Kent League Cup on 4.12.48 and Charlie then found the net in his next outing as Margate drew 2-2 at Royal Marines Chatham.
He also played once for the senior side during the 1949/50 campaign.
Charlie played three more games for the first team during 1950/51 and once again in the 1951/52 season, a campaign in which he was the reserve team captain.
He also made a one-off appearance for the first team during 1952/53 - a 1-1 draw away to Faversham on 13.4.53 - and then played exclusively for the reserves between the 1953/54 and 1958/59 seasons.
He was released by the club in May 1959.
Charlie died in January 2013 aged 90.
