Battling defender who began his career with Crewe where he played regularly in the reserve team. Brian left the Alex due to pressure from Chester College where he was training to become a PE teacher. They gave him an ultimatum - play for the College side (instead of for Crewe) or be thrown off his course.

Brian later had a long spell with Ramsgate spanning the 1970/71-1979/80 seasons and he made over 200 appearances for the club before briefly giving up football to play rugby for Thanet Wanderers halfway through the 1979/80 campaign.

Brian had fallen out with Rams' manager Bob Harrop but he returned to Ramsgate in August 1980 to play under Graham Sawyer before joining Herne Bay later in the 1980/81 season. He then joined Thanet United in August 1981.

Brian made his debut in a Southern League Cup tie at Hastings on 25.8.81, playing at centre-back. United lost the game 8-1 and Brian switched to right-back after that. He also appeared at left-back before leaving the club at the end of September. Brian departed because he felt that he wasn't fit enough, although in later years he admitted that a 6-1 defeat at Wealdstone on 15.9.81 had also played a part in his decision. He'd made eight appearances before moving on.

He worked as a PE teacher and immediately after leaving Thanet Brian played for a team of PE teachers called Nonington Old Boys in the Kent Amateur League. Martin Henderson was also part of their side.

However Brian soon returned to Ramsgate and spent the 1982/83 and 1983/84 seasons with them.
