Defender born in St.Pauls Cray who emigrated to Australia aged eight and played his early football there. Brian spent five years with Coburg in the Victoria League, progressing through their junior ranks to the first team. He also played for the Victoria State Under-16 side.
Brian returned to England in 1979 and after trials at Tottenham and Orient he joined Bromley. He went on to spend ten years there although he missed two whole seasons after snapping knee ligaments. The injury forced him to wear a substantial knee brace for the rest of his career. During his time at Hayes Lane Brian had trials at Tottenham and Orient and also played for the London representative side. In April 1989 he was awarded a testimonial with Crystal Palace supplying Bromley's opposition, the 1988/89 campaign had been one of the two Brian missed completely due to his injury.
In the summer of 1989 Brian followed Bromley manager Trevor Ford to Margate and made his debut on 15.8.89 in a 3-1 win over Ramsgate at Hartsdown - the annual Isle of Thanet Gazette Cup game - and it was his first competitive match in over a year. He went on to play regularly throughout the 1989/90 season in either the right or left-back positions and made a total of 45 appearances. The local press variously described Brian as being "consistent", "dependable" and "tenacious". The Thanet Times said that he was "assured in the extreme" as Margate lost 1-0 at home to Witney on 30.12.89 and "outstanding" in a 0-0 draw with Fareham at Hartsdown Park on 3.3.90. Brian scored two goals during the season, the first of them in a 3-2 defeat at Ashford - an FA Trophy tie played on 24.10.89. His 30-yard effort was "a screaming shell of a shot" according to the Isle of Thanet Gazette. The Thanet Extra simply said the effort was "brilliant". Brian's other goal was Margate's last of the campaign and came in a 2-1 defeat at Fareham on 5.5.90.
Brian started the 1990/91 season as a fixture in the side, playing at left-back in each of Margate's first five games. The last of those matches was an FA Cup tie at Ramsgate on 1.9.90 and Brian had the misfortune to break his ankle during the second half. The Gazette said his loss was "a major blow" and Brian missed the remainder of the campaign due to the injury although he did play once as a substitute for the reserves in April 1991.
In August 1991 Brian featured in Margate's last pre-season friendly against Redbridge Forest but he didn't make a competitive appearance until 5.10.91 when he played at left-back in a 1-1 draw with Weymouth at Hartsdown. It had been over a year since his last first team game and the Thanet Times said that he "never put a foot wrong". Brian then played regularly for the rest of the 1991/92 season, usually at right-back. On 2.11.91 the Times said he was "outstanding" in a 3-1 win at Erith & Belvedere and Brian got one of the goals with a deflected shot from outside the penalty area. On 5.5.92 he played as Margate went down 3-1 at home to Ramsgate in the annual Isle of Thanet Gazette Cup match and it turned out to be Brian's last game for the club. He'd scored once in 37 appearances (three as sub) during 1991/92.
After featuring in some of Margate's friendlies in the summer of 1992 Brian signed for Tooting & Mitcham and went on to make 186 appearances in almost four full seasons there before moving on to Tonbridge towards the end of the 1995/96 campaign.
He made around 60 sporadic appearances for Tonbridge in a lengthy stay with the Angels before leaving the club during the 1999/00 season. By then Brian was also the club's assistant manager.
Brian played the final football of his senior career when he made a one-off appearance for Kent League side Lordswood towards the end of 1999/00.
In later years Brian played for Corinthian Veterans and was still turning out for them during 2008, along with his former Margate colleagues Paul McMenemy and Ian Young. Brian also played for Tonbridge Veterans during 2008 and former Margate star Tony Dixon was one of his team-mates. Both Brian and Tony then turned out for Dover's veterans during the 2009/10 season.
He was an electrician by trade.
