Andy made his debut as a 17 year-old in a 2-1 win at Sheppey on 8.10.69 and had a good game, displaying good judgment coupled with sound handling. Margate manager Almer Hall said "He is a very promising lad." Andy went on to make a total of 15 appearances and he was one of six different keepers used by Margate during the season. He also played in the Sunday League for Margate 'A' and had a spell on loan at Ramsgate in March 1970.
Andy spent the first half of the 1970/71 season with Ramsgate and then joined Canterbury in March 1971. He made six Southern League appearances for City before the end of the campaign and then dropped back into Thanet local football.
During the 1971/72 and 1972/73 campaigns he combined Sunday League football with a few sporadic games for Margate's reserves.
Andy then played a few games for Ramsgate during the 1973/74 season and he returned to Margate to make a one-off appearance for the first team during the 1975/76 campaign. He played in a Kent Floodlight Cup tie at Ashford on 14.10.75 that Margate won 5-0.
Andy then joined Deal for the 1976/77 season but in March 1977 he rejoined Margate as back-up for Steve Bowtell. He played twice before the end of the campaign.
Andy then returned to Ramsgate in the summer of 1978 but in December 1978 he rejoined Margate on loan and made three appearances as a stop-gap replacement for the injured Bowtell.
Andy was still with the Rams during the 1980/81 season and turned out occasionally for their reserves during the 1981/82 campaign.
In 2014 he was still living locally and was an active member of Broadstairs Sailing Club. On 12.4.14 Andy was one of the many former Margate players who attended the club's 'Legends Day' at Hartsdown Park.
