On 9.12.80 Andy made his first team debut when he played at left-back in a 2-1 win at Hastings in the Southern League and he went on to become a regular during the second half of the campaign, usually featuring as a central defender. Andy impressed with his aerial power, prompting the local press to describe him as "a promising pivot". He made a total of 19 appearances before the end of the season and in a 4-1 win over Addlestone & Weybridge on 10.1.81 Andy "tackled and covered with the utmost resolution" according to the Thanet Times. However the Isle of Thanet Gazette said that he was "repeatedly turned like a spinning-top" during a 3-2 defeat at home to Ashford on 27.1.81. Andy scored once during the season - in a 1-1 draw at Fareham on 8.4.81.

He stayed with the newly re-named Thanet United for the 1981/82 campaign and played regularly at centre-back early on, scoring an own goal in a 1-1 draw with Dunstable at Hartsdown Park on 15.8.81 - the club's first ever match. Andy then found himself out of the side for a lengthy period halfway through the season but returned to re-establish himself later on, finishing the campaign with a run of ten games. All in all he made 29 appearances (one as sub) and scored once as Thanet finished bottom of the Southern League Southern Division.

Andy began the 1982/83 season as a regular in the heart of United's defence before being moved into attack for an FA Cup tie at Hastings on 2.10.82. The switch proved to be a success as Andy scored in a 2-1 win. He continued in an attacking role for United's next three games before reverting back to his regular position in defence. After playing in midfield in a 3-1 home defeat against Crawley on 11.12.82 Andy found himself out of the team altogether for an extended period. He returned to the side for a 1-0 defeat at home to Salisbury on 5.3.83, playing up front once more, but then dropped back into the reserves for the remainder of the season. At the end of the campaign he left the club having made 19 appearances (two as sub) and scored three goals.

Andy joined Ramsgate for the 1983/84 season and then played for Herne Bay during 1984/85.

He later dropped into Thanet amateur football.

Andy worked as a prison officer.
