5' 9" tall left-sided attacker born in Cambridge who started his career with Eastern Counties League outfit Newmarket where he was known as 'Tiger'. Alex progressed through the club's junior ranks and made his first team debut during the 1999/00 season.

During the 2002/03 campaign Alex scored 30 goals from just 34 outings for Newmarket and his tally included four goals in a 7-1 win over Ely in the Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup in January 2003.

At the start of the 2003/04 season Alex scored hat-tricks in three successive games which brought him to attention of Football League clubs.

In September 2003 he had a trial with Norwich and played for the reserves as they lost 2-1 at home to Northampton on 24.9.03.

In October 2003 Alex had further trials at Yeovil - where he scored for the reserves in a 9-0 win over Frome - and Ipswich where he featured in a reserve team match against Derby.

His next trial was at Brentford and Alex then played for Yeovil's reserves again in a game against Plymouth. He was widely expected to join Yeovil but in November 2003 it was Brentford who secured Alex's services for a fee of £7,500. A few days before his transfer was confirmed Alex scored a hat-trick in his last match for Newmarket as they beat visitors Great Yarmouth 4-3.

He had some injury problems during his early weeks at Brentford but on 26.12.03 Alex made his first team debut as an 85th minute substitute in a Division 2 (later League One) game against Bristol City at Griffin Park. The visitors won 2-1. He featured twice more as a sub during the remainder of the 2003/04 season and in the second of those outings on 8.5.04 Alex scored the only goal of the game as Brentford beat visitors AFC Bournemouth. It was a crucial strike as it ensured the Bees avoided relegation.

In the summer of 2004 Alex scored a hat-trick in a friendly at his old club Newmarket that had been arranged as part of his transfer deal and on 7.8.04 - the opening day of the 2004/05 campaign - he scored after coming on as a substitute for Brentford in a 3-1 defeat at Chesterfield. Alex finally made his full debut for the Bees in a 2-0 defeat at Ipswich in the League Cup on 24.8.04 and future Margate player Ryan Peters also made his full debut for Brentford in the tie. Alex finished 2004/05 having scored four times in 28 senior outings, many of them as a substitute.

He scored once from 18 first team appearances for the Bees during 2005/06 and at the start of the 2006/07 season Alex featured in 12 matches before being loaned to Swindon in October 2006.

He made his debut as a substitute for Swindon as they beat visitors Grimsby 3-0 in a League One game on 14.10.06 and Alex then played three more times as a sub before going back to Brentford in November 2006.

After returning to Griffin Park he made three further senior appearances but after coming on as a substitute in a 1-0 defeat at Port Vale on 16.12.06 Alex fell out of favour and didn't feature again in Brentford's first team before being loaned to Conference outfit Grays in March 2007.

He made his debut for the Essex club as a substitute in a 1-0 home defeat against Stevenage in the FA Trophy on 10.3.07 and Alex went on to score twice from a total of 14 outings (seven as sub) up to the end of April 2007.

On 5.5.07 he made his final appearance for Brentford when he came on as a substitute in a 3-1 defeat at Tranmere and after rejecting a new contract Alex was released at the end of the 2006/07 season.

In the summer of 2007 he signed for Bradford City and Alex made his debut in a 1-1 draw with visitors Macclesfield in League Two on 11.8.07. He scored his first goal for the Bantams in a 2-1 home win over Chester on 6.11.07 and by the end of the 2007/08 campaign Alex had scored three times in 30 appearances (19 as sub). He was released by Bradford at the end of the season.

In June 2008 Alex linked up with League Two club Rotherham and made his debut in a 1-0 win over visitors Lincoln on 9.8.08. In his next outing on 12.8.08 he scored the opening goal of the game in a 2-2 draw at Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup that Rotherham won 5-3 on penalties. Alex featured regularly for the next few months but after he'd played in a 2-0 home win over Macclesfield on 31.1.09 he dropped out of the first team picture.

In March 2009 Alex was loaned to Conference club Woking and made his debut for the Cards in a 1-1 draw with visitors Wrexham on 14.3.09. He played twice more (once as a substitute) and on 11.4.09 Alex scored in a 2-0 win at Forest Green which was his last outing for Woking.

At the end of the 2008/09 campaign he was released by Rotherham having scored three times in 27 appearances (four as sub) in all competitions.

In July 2009 Alex signed for Oxford United and his first outing for them was as a substitute in a 2-1 home win over York in the Conference on 8.8.09. He played twice more as a sub before being released at the end of October 2009.

At the start of November 2009 Alex joined Conference South outfit Braintree and in January 2010 he was on the move again, going back to Grays for a second spell there.

He spent the remainder of the 2009/10 season with Grays and made 15 Conference appearances (three as sub) without scoring there before being released.

In July 2010 Alex trained with AFC Sudbury and then had a trial with Hereford but shortly after the start of the 2010/11 campaign he signed for Isthmian League Premier Division club Canvey Island.

Alex went on to score 22 goals from 91 appearances (eight as sub) in all competitions for Canvey during 2010/11 and 2011/12 before joining Margate in July 2012.

He signed a one-year contract and Margate's Chief Executive Officer Cliff Egan said "Alex is a player that our manager Chris Kinnear has had his eye on for a while. We're highly delighted to have signed him. He has plenty of experience in the Ryman League and above and as a goal-scoring left-winger, with a good goal to games ratio, I'm sure our supporters will be excited about his signing."

Chris Kinnear told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "Alex is a quality player and has been on my radar for a while. He performed really well against us for Canvey last season and I was keen to get him in."

Alex scored in a 4-0 friendly win over Erith & Belvedere at Welling on 21.7.12 and then made his competitive debut on the left wing as Margate beat Hendon 2-0 at Hartsdown Park in the opening Isthmian League Premier Division game of the season on 18.8.12. He also started the following game - a 2-2 draw at Hastings on 21.8.12 - but Alex was then an unused substitute for Margate's next two matches.

He was back in the side for a 2-0 win at Bognor Regis on 1.9.12 but after that Alex only featured twice as a sub in the next five games. On 22.9.12 he came off the bench to score his first goal in an FA Cup tie at Aveley that Margate won 4-1.

His next outing came on 2.10.12 as Margate entertained Sittingbourne in a Kent Senior Cup tie and the match marked Alex's first start for over a month. He scored a hat-trick in a 6-1 win and afterwards Alex told Margate's website "It was a good game; not just for myself, but for all the other boys that haven't been involved (in previous matches). It was a nice chance for everyone just to express themselves and show the manager and everyone else that they want to enjoy their football, and play at a high intensity and I think a lot of the boys were happy when they came off."

Alex also said he'd been frustrated about not starting matches and explained "It's hard when you feel you're not contributing a lot, because you want to be on the pitch. Unfortunately for a few of us, because the team are playing so well, we've had to wait for our chance."

For the next few months Alex was a fixture in Margate's matchday squad but he was mostly used as a substitute. On 8.12.12 he scored his fifth goal of the season in a 2-0 home win over Wingate & Finchley after coming off the bench but there was an element of fortune about Alex's effort as his free-kick from way out on the right wing drifted into the net.

He came on early in the second half of Margate's next game - a home match against Carshalton on 11.12.12 - and the Isle of Thanet Gazette said Alex "made a huge impact from the bench" by setting up two second half goals in a 3-1 win. The paper said he "did brilliantly down the right" in the build-up to Margate's second goal - a 25-yard effort from Mark Corneille - and Alex then put in a low cross that Matt Bodkin backheeled into the net.

He made another big impression as a substitute on 9.2.13 as Margate took on high-flying Whitehawk at Hartsdown Park. Alex came on a few minutes into the second half and proceeded to score both goals to give Margate a 2-1 win. Both his strikes were impressive efforts from distance. Alex then started the following match - a 1-0 defeat at Lowestoft on 12.2.13 - but resumed his substitute duties for the next four games after that.

On 23.2.13 he again scored after coming on as a substitute as Margate beat visitors Hampton & Richmond 2-1 and that was the fifth goal Alex had managed after starting on the bench. Caretaker assistant manager Simon Osborn spoke to Margate's website about him and said "He brings a goal threat for you and he's good in the air. He's a little frustrated, he wants to start and that's understandable; I'd be disappointed if he wasn't but when he's come on he's made an impact which is vitally important as a squad player."

On 26.2.13 Alex featured once again as a substitute in a 2-0 home win over Leiston but that turned out to be his final appearance for Margate. He then drifted away from the club citing work commitments having scored eight times in 26 outings (16 as sub).
