Versatile hard-working player born in Stamford Hill, London who began his career with Hendon before moving on to Ilford. After two years there Alan joined Ramsgate.
He spent three years at Southwood before joining Margate during the summer of 1961.
Alan made his debut in a Southern League game at Burton on 2.9.61 and scored one of Margate's goals in a 3-2 win. He went on to make 52 appearances during the 1961/62 season and scored five goals. He played all over the forward line and also featured in midfield and even at left-back. He won praise for his consistency and impressed with his shrewd passing. On 4.11.61 Alan was part of the Margate side that pulled off a famous 3-0 win at Bournemouth & Boscombe in the 1st Round of the FA Cup and he also featured in the 2nd Round replay at Notts County on 30.11.61 which the home side won 3-1. On 12.5.62 he played as Margate beat visitors Folkestone 4-0 to win the Kent Senior Shield.
Alan also featured regularly during the 1962/63 season as Margate won the Southern League Division One title. He scored seven goals from 40 appearances and one of his strikes was a rasping drive from the edge of the penalty area in a 3-1 win over Ashford at Hartsdown Park on 15.9.62. On 3.11.62 he was in the Margate side that lost 3-1 at Millwall in the FA Cup 1st Round and on 7.5.63 Alan played in 2-0 win at Maidstone in the 1st Leg of the Kent Floodlight Cup Final.
In the summer of 1963 he was released and soon joined Wisbech. When they played host to Margate on 1.2.64 Alan was made captain for the day and he had a fine game, prompting the local press to say that Margate shouldn't have let him go.
In the summer of 1965 Alan returned to Kent and joined Gravesend & Northfleet. He went on to make 109 appearances for the Fleet and scored once before leaving the club at the end of the 1967/68 season. Alan had broken his leg earlier in the campaign.
During his time with Margate Alan worked as an executive in a London advertising agency.
