Striker born in London to Ghanaian parents who started his career with Gillingham. Akwasi made his senior debut for the Gills aged only 16 when he came on as a substitute in a 1-0 home defeat against Walsall in The Championship on 12.4.03 and he featured once more as a sub before the end of the 2002/03 campaign.

Akwasi didn't play for Gillingham's first team during 2003/04 but in November 2003 he got the only goal of the game as the Gills' youth team beat Liverpool at Anfield in an FA Youth Cup tie. Future Margate midfielder Darren Marsden was also in the Gillingham side.

During 2004/05 Akwasi was sent off along with future Margate loanee Dean Beckwith as Gillingham's reserves beat Brighton Reserves 2-1 and he was released at the end of the season having not played in the first team for two years.

Early in the 2005/06 campaign Gillingham decided to give Akwasi another chance at the club and on 6.12.05 he started a senior match for the first time as the Gills beat Doncaster 1-0 at Priestfield in League One. He went on to play in five more league games during the next few weeks and Akwasi's last first team outing came on 21.1.06 in a 2-0 defeat at Oldham. He was released again at the end of the season.

In the summer of 2006 Akwasi signed a one-year contract with Conference South outfit Welling but struggled for goals there and having scored three times, all in cup ties, he was loaned to Walton & Hersham a few months into the campaign. Akwasi played in three Isthmian League Premier Division games without scoring for the Swans and after returning to Welling in December 2006 he was released by the club.

Later in December 2006 he joined Ramsgate and Akwasi made his debut in a 1-0 home win over Staines in the Isthmian League Premier Division on 23.12.06. The Thanet Times said "there's plenty to like about the 20-year-old former Gillingham player" and added "pace, power, tricks and turns made you wonder what he's doing in the Ryman Premier League". The Rams' manager Jimmy Ward told the Isle of Thanet Gazette "He has power and pace and works hard and he can play up front or out wide. He has everything we like here at Ramsgate."

Akwasi went on to score once from 17 league appearances (ten as sub) for the Rams during the remainder of 2006/07 but his spell at Southwood was probably most notable for a Kent Senior Cup match he played in at Tonbridge on 19.3.07. Akwasi got the only goal of the game but as he'd already featured in a tie for Welling the Rams were expelled from the competition. He was released at the end of the season.

Akwasi started 2007/08 with Kingstonian where he played twice as a substitute in the Isthmian League Division 1 South and then moved on to East Thurrock.

He only featured in three Premier Division games (twice as sub) for the Rocks without scoring but Akwasi did score four times in cup ties including a goal in a 3-2 win at Margate in the Isthmian League Cup on 2.10.07.

In December 2007 he joined Tonbridge and Akwasi scored six goals from 18 Premier Division outings (seven as sub) before the end of the 2007/08 campaign. His tally included a hat-trick in a 4-0 home win over Hendon on 8.4.08.

In the summer of 2008 he moved on to Concord Rangers and Akwasi made two Division 1 North appearances without scoring for the Essex club but did find the net in an FA Trophy tie.

In November 2008 he linked up with Farnborough of the Southern League Premier Division and scored once from five outings (four as sub) there before moving on again.

Akwasi's next stop was Conference South outfit Maidenhead and from there he moved on to Halesowen in January 2009 where he finished the 2008/09 season.

After a short spell out of football at the start of 2009/10 Akwasi joined Margate on trial in September 2009 and scored a hat-trick in a 4-2 win over Canterbury in a friendly played at Hartsdown Park on 29.9.09. He made his competitive debut as Margate took on visitors Kingstonian in an Isthmian League Premier Division game on 3.10.09 and marked the occasion with a goal after just eight minutes, turning in a Wayne Wilson corner at the near-post to set Margate on the road to a 2-1 win. Akwasi then started each of the next four matches but after featuring in a 1-0 win at VCD in the Isthmian League Cup on 10.11.09 he was released.

In December 2009 he started a second spell with Tonbridge and on 4.2.10 Akwasi was part of the Angels side that beat visitors Wealdstone 2-1. Unfortunately the game was an Isthmian League Cup tie and as he'd already played for Margate in the competition Akwasi's appearance meant that Tonbridge were expelled - the second time he'd caused a club to lose their place in a cup competition. Shortly afterwards Akwasi was released having failed to score in seven Premier League outings (six as sub) for the Angels.

After another spell out of senior football he joined Ashford (Middlesex) early in the 2010/11 campaign and their manager at the time was Jamie Lawrence who'd played for Margate during 2009/10.

In August 2011 Akwasi signed for Canvey Island but he didn't feature in their first team before moving on to Burgess Hill in September 2011.

On 14.1.12 he was sent off as the Sussex club lost 1-0 to Maidstone at Sittingbourne in the Isthmian League Division 1 South and Akwasi finished 2011/12 having scored once from 27 league appearances (two as sub). He often played as a left-back during the campaign.

After a season out of senior football Akwasi signed for Division 1 South outfit Hastings in August 2013.

In November 2013 he moved on to Horsham, also of Division 1 South, but Akwasi only made 13 substitute appearances there, scoring once, before moving on to Crawley Down Gatwick at the end of March 2014.

He was sometimes known as Akwasi Fobi-Edusei, especially during the early part of his career.
